What's everyone reading for August? I recently finished Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter for the mystery category and am working on some of my HF challenge books. I'm leaning toward Watership Down ("made into a film") or The Famished Road ("award winner") for my next contemporary challenge book. |

THE CONFESSION by John Grisham. I forced myself to listen to the audio and fast forwarded through the last 2 CDs. Too long, weak storyline, poor narrator, etc. The mystery was solved in the first 2 or 3 CDs. From that point, it was just football games and long conversations and car rides. I give it a D+ and I am being generous. JOHN GRISHAM was one of my "have to read" authors for years after THE FIRM. IMO, he now just churns out books for the $$$$. Good Bye John, Mary |

Lots of time spent on fantasy and historical fiction books this month. Did finish reading The Wonder Book of the Air by Cynthia Shearer which I am still mulling over. It's about three generations of Southern family, beginning with Harrision Durrance, a handsome and charismatic man who grows up in a dysfunctional family. This is a read that merits slow reading, much thinking and discussion with others to get the most from it. Am also working on Stardust by Neil Gaiman. Also did a joint read of an Ariana Franklin book, Mistress in the Art of Death, on gr and one on pbs of Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran with another friend. Fun reading and sharing with someone else. Should have done this with The Wonder Book.
