I am going to use this thread to try and help me be consistant with exercise.  I am going to update this post with what I do each day.  If I do at least 1/2 hour a day, 5 days a week for the month of January- then I will buy myself a book off my wishlist.  Then if I do the same for 2 months( I might increase the time) I will get to buy another book off my wish list.  If anyone else wants to join in- please post.  We can try to motivate each other.

First week in January

S- 20 min of Cathe F core max and 10 minutes walking with leslie sansone- One day down!!!

S- 30 min enviga calorie burn with kendall

M  Couldn't make myself get up in am- after work I did a deifferent 30 min enviga cardio with kendall- I enjoy how he makes the moves into a routine so you have to pay attention

T10 min biggest loser - that is a tough one- even though it was just 10 min/ 15 min grove and burn disco- billy blanks jr /12 cardio fat blast- denise austin

W- 32 min 2 mile walk with leslie sansone

T- craft night- no exercising today

F - 30 min- 21 day  cardio 1-This was a tough one.  it was circuits of 5,10,15 reps and 30 seconds of jumprope between each circuit.

Second Week

S- Walked in woods carrying equipment-at least 1 1/2 hours- I am exhausted!

S- Walked in woods again pulling a sled.  empty on way out- husband helped pull on the way back-116 lbs for 1/2 way back- 213 lbs for the other half with a hill.- even more exhausted than yesterday.

M- Walked in woods again pulling an empty sled.  I think it was only about 20 mins.

T-Walked in woods again pulling an empty sled-went the whole way and then back with equipment with sled.  Back to regular exercising tomorrow.

W- 25 minutes Cardioke, 10 min quick blast abs & stretch

T- Craft night- no exercising

F- 25 minutes cardioke(I called this close enough)- two weeks down- on to week three!

S-35 min- 2 mile walk with leslie sansone- carried 2 lb weights and did arm movements- really made a difference in workout!!

S- nothing- not sure if this is because my husband had a headache and I didn't want to wake him- I'm very heavy footed, or if I'm using that as an excuse.

M- 40 minutes Jillian Michaels- 6 week 6 pack.  She is very tough!!!

T- 35 min leslie sansone 2 mile walk with 2 lb weights( i really felt those abs this morning)

W- 30 min cardio boot camp with Kendall

T- craft night no exercise

F- this was a tough day.  It is getting very hard to make myself exercise.  The excuses are just popping into my head.  Shoveled for 10/15 minutes then came in to do an exercise show.  First one I chose had push ups in the warm up- no thank you.  Then a jillian micheals show I picked next had jumping jacks in the warm up.  I wasn't ready for that either!!!!  Finally went to leslie sansone cardio blast 20 minutes.

Week four

S- once I get off the computer I am going to use my exercise bike and set it for 300 calories.- well I biked for an hour but it only used 150 calories.

S- jillian michaels 6 week 6 pack. used 2 lb weights.  I really have trouble with the planks and especially the side planks.

M- 21 min leslie sansone tone and walk 10 min standing abs Jennifer G.

T- 30 min last chance jillian micheals.  I couldn't do push ups so I did planks instead.  Also I couldn't do criscross jumping jacks and the arms at the same time-  I just kept messing up and laughing.
W- 30 minutes on exercise bike

T- nothing- board meeting after work

F- 32 minutes walk with leslie sansone with 2 lb weights.

S- Cardioke- 50 minutes!!  I dug out the actual cd and did 3 extra songs, a stretch, an abs- in addition to the normal free one.

S- I used the exercise bike while I watched a movie- 94 minutes-16.5 miles- 300 calories!!

I am starting Weight Watchers on Wendesday and I started going back to the gym today.  I'm just really going to start eating healthy and go to the gym.

I downloaded Couch25K on my phone and I started that today and it was really great.  Tomorrow when I go to the gym I will work with the weights.

Good luck tomorrow!

That is great. I loved going to the gym when I went.  I felt like I had to go and I was usually the only one there.  I loved trying the different things they had.  But it closed about a year or so ago.  And the hotel near me  that offers fitness membership has treadmills and some weights.  I'd get bored pretty quick.

What is couch25?How did it go with weights?

Have fun at your first meeting.  I had a co-worker that did weight watchers and did great.

I'm having no luck getting up to exercise in the morning before work, so I am doing it when I get home.  I feel like at least I am burning some calories instead of sitting and reading!

1/4

Couch25k Week 1 day 2

Couck25K is a beginner's running schedule.  Right now I go on the treadmill for a 1/2 hour and I alternate from running to walking.  Right now I warm up for 5 mins and then alternate running for 1 minute and then walking for 1.5 minutes.  I do that 8 times and then I have a 5 minute cooldown.  The more and more I do the more and more less walking I do.  I just got back from the gym and I feel great.  I downloaded it on my iPhone.

Angela, I'll join you!  I need to post my exercise somewhere to keep motivated (besides my private log because I'm the only one who sees that, though it did work for me last year until I had surgery in October, then I just stopped, but I need to start again. I think I need to take it to the next level this year and make myself accountable to others).

New Year's Resolution- get back into exercising (30 min 3-4 X a week)

1/1/11

30 minutes- 2 Mile Brisk Walk (Leslie Sanson Walk Away the Pounds Ultimate Collection)- used stretchy bands

10 minutes Denise Austin's Best Belly Fat-Blasters (2nd segment- Power Zone Abs)

1/2/11

Strength Training (as dictated on SparkPeople)
Wide Leg Wall Sit w/ Calf Raises 2 sets 12 reps
Two-Part Pushups     2 sets     12 reps
Superman     2 sets
Lying Straight Leg Raises     2 sets    12 reps
Stretch After Strength Training

Cardio

45 minutes- 2 Mile Brisk Walk (Leslie Sanson Walk Away the Pounds Ultimate Collection)- used stretchy bands (repeated the 0.5-1.5 mile section to make it last 45 minutes)

1/3/11   20 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (used 3 lb weights and did the harder moves for the most part except push-ups because my shoulders still hurt from yesterday)

15 minutes- Denise Austin - Fat-Blasting Yoga: 21 Days to a Yoga Body- workout 2 (not flexible or coordinated enough for some of the moves, but it was a good stretch after the Shred video)
1/4/11   20 minutes- 1 Mile Get Up & Get Started (Leslie Sanson Walk Away the Pounds Ultimate Collection)- rewound and did an extra 2 minutes to make a full 20 minutes- used the 3 lb weights, but only held them for part of it instead of doing the lifting b/c I'm still sore from yesterday

10 minutes Denise Austin's Best Belly Fat-Blasters (1st segment- Personal Training System)
1/5/11   Wednesdays will be my "no workout/ rest day"
1/6/11   20 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (used 3 lb weights- still have to do the modified pushups for part of it).

SparkPeople 10-Minute Cardio Kickboxing Workout Video
1/7/11   30 minutes shoveling snow- counted this instead of doing a workout DVD because this was a lot of cardio and lifting all on its own! :-P
1/8/11

Strength Training (as dictated on SparkPeople)
Two-Part Pushups     2 sets     12 reps
One-Arm Side Pushups     2 sets    12 reps
Stretch After Strength Training

Cardio

10 minutes Denise Austin's Best Belly Fat-Blasters (3rd segment- Hit the Spot Pilates Abs & Waistline)

15 minutes- Denise Austin Blast Away the Pounds Indoor Walk- segment 3: Power Walk and Tone (15 minute mile)- used 3 lbs weights

1/9/11

Strength Training (as dictated on SparkPeople)
Wide Leg Wall Sit w/ Calf Raises 2 sets 12 reps
Two-Part Pushups 2 sets 12 reps
Superman 2 sets
Lying Straight Leg Raises 2 sets 12 reps
Stretch After Strength Training

Cardio:
10 minutes Denise Austin's Best Belly Fat-Blasters (2nd segment- Power Zone Abs)

20 Minutes Denise Austin 3 Week Boot Camp(Cardio segment)

1/10/11   20 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (used 5 lb weights- still have to do the modified pushups for part of it)
1/11/11
51 minutes Advanced Walk (Leslie Sanson Walk Away the Pounds Ultimate Collection) (one was about 15 minutes, but the beginning and end are pretty slow- the middle is more intense- so I'm counting it as 17 minutes per mile because I'd rather underestimate than overestimate).

4 sets of 30 second push ups (mostly proper form, as part of the "Trojan War bootcamp" that goes with this video I show the kids at the beginning of the Greece unit..now my arms hurt, and that's with one class that didn't get to do this because we ran out of time...good thing because my arms would probably fall off if we did this, lol).
1/12/11   30 minutes of snow shoveling- Snow day today, 9 inches of snow- started to shovel it with my husband, but the grandson-in-law of our elderly neighbor (the one we shoveled out the last two storms) came by with his snowblower and did the rest of our house too! :-) But 30 minutes is still good, so I'm counting it even though we probably would have burned more calories if we had to do the whole thing on our own.
1/13/11   Took today as my workout rest day since I didn't do so yesterday
1/14/11
15 minutes- Denise Austin Blast Away the Pounds Indoor Walk- segment 2: Fat Blasting Interval Walk (I jogged during a few segments just to get the heart-rate up)

15 minutes- Denise Austin Blast Away the Pounds Indoor Walk- segment 3: Power Walk and Tone (15 minute mile)- used 5 lbs weights- I struggled a bit with the 5 lbs weights, but that's probably a good thing.

10 minutes Denise Austin's Best Belly Fat-Blasters (6th segment- Yoga Body Burn)
1/15/11
20 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (used 5 lb weights- still have to do the modified pushups for part of it and the last strength segment felt more difficult than usual)

15 minutes- Denise Austin Blast Away the Pounds Indoor Walk- segment 2: Fat Blasting Interval Walk (I jogged during a few segments just to get the heart-rate up)
1/16/11
30 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 6 Week Six-Pack: I used 5 lb weights- had to do the beginner level for most exercises, but could do the harder ones when it involved weights (beginner level didn't use weights at all). I'm going to feel this one tomorrow. I actually had to stop at the 18 minute mark to go upstairs and get some water because I was so spent! :-P I guess that's a good thing in a weird way.
1/17/11   20 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (used 5 lb weights- for most, but had to switched to 3 lbs in the last half of the last strength segment- just couldn't keep it up for some reason today).
1/18/11   Did not work out- had to meet with my grad class research group until late
1/19/11   Wednesday is my "no workout" day due to coming home late
1/20/11   30 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 6 Week Six-Pack: I used 5 lb weights- lost steam at the end and felt like my moves were getting a bit sloppy, but I tried! :-)
1/21/11   30 minutes- shoveled snow this morning before going to work

30 minutes- 2 Mile Brisk Walk (Leslie Sanson Walk Away the Pounds Ultimate Collection)- carried the 5 lb weights during the first mile and used stretchy bands

10 minutes Denise Austin's Best Belly Fat-Blasters (1st segment- Personal Training System)
1/22/11   20 Minutes Denise Austin 3 Week Boot Camp Kettle bell Inspired Strength segment- used 8 lbs hand weights

6 minutes Denise Austin 3 Week Boot Camp Bonus Ab Fat Blaster segment- used the 5 lbs hand weights
1/23/11   Didn't workout
1/24/11   30 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 6 Week Six-Pack: I used 5 lb weights- I was able to do more of the "harder" moves, during the first circuit, but not during the second circuit.
1/25/11   Didn't workout
1/26/11   Wednesday is my off-day due to coming home late
1/27/11   60 minutes to shovel just our house (the elderly gentleman's next door was already done), this snow was slushy and heavy so it took twice as long as usual. We are running out of places to put the snow. The piles are about my height, 5 ft 4 inches.

30 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 6 Week Six-Pack: I used 5 lb weights- I did this right after the hour of shoveling simply because I didn't want to have to take 2 showers today (I had quite a bit of trouble keeping up, but I did it, though I had to do more of the beginner moves than usual). I thought about not working out, but I haven't worked out the past two days, so I figured I had to make that up.
1/28/11
15 minutes- Denise Austin Blast Away the Pounds Indoor Walk- segment 2: Fat Blasting Interval Walk (I jogged during a few segments just to get the heart-rate up)

15 minutes- Denise Austin Blast Away the Pounds Indoor Walk- segment 3: Power Walk and Tone (15 minute mile)- used 8 lbs weights for 4 minutes, but they were too heavy, so I switched to the 5 lbs weights for the rest of it.
1/29/11   Did not work out
1/30/11
20 minutes- Denise Austin's Boot Camp Total Body Blast: Strength Boot Camp

12 minutes- Denise Austin's Boot Camp Total Body Blast: Flexibility Segment (it's 10 minutes long, but I did part of the leg segment twice to stretch out a leg cramp that woke me up Saturday morning and hasn't quite gone away, this helped a lot, I wish I did it yesterday instead of not working out at all).
1/31/11   30 minutes- Level 1 of Jillian Michaels 6 Week Six-Pack: I used 5 lb weights.

I'll put February in a new post! :-)

Hi Brenna;

Welcome!  I love your chart!!!!!!!  I didn't know how to do that on here.   Today this showed me it is working.  I came home and just sat down.  After watching tv for 10-15 minutes I started thinking about having to post that I didn't exercise and got up and did it.!!!  I was very proud of myself.  Its great to see that you do some of the same stuff I do.  I can't do push ups so I always substitute something else.  Once I get in a routine I hope to increase my time and add weights and bands too.  I'll have to check out my channels to see if they have leslie sansone using bands.

Congrats- we both met our first week goal- on to week two!!!!

Hey Jessica how did the rest of your week go?

Thanks Angela!  I really don't know how to make the chart, it just showed up when I copied it over from my Notes section on SparkPeople.com where I keep track of my exercise (I just had to click on the chart outline to make the border show up because it was too light to see very well originally).

You are right though, this seemed to help!  Knowing I had someone to report to made me workout on the days where I thought about letting it slide.  I had to let it slide though on Friday after shoveling that snow, but I counted that since that felt like a workout and between my husband and I we shoveled our house and our elderly neighbor's in 30 minutes, so that's got to count for something (and I felt the burn the next day)! :-P  This is the second time in the past few weeks we've had snow. We had a HUGE storm on Dec. 26 and it took 3 hours to shovel both houses (though that was over 2 ft of snow versus the 5 or so inches we had yesterday).  We're supposed to get another huge storm this Tuesday or Wednesday, so if it keeps snowing like this, I'm going to get get shape just from the shoveling (30 minutes is 178 calories according to SparkPeople, so let the snow come)! :-P

I agree- shoveling show definitely counts.  We usually have a lot of snow, but we have gotten nothing this year.  We have  a lot of bare ground.  I'm defintely not complaining- I hate driving in the snow.

Can I join in? I read something earlier today on yahoo.com about people who had been successful at losing weight by writing a blog about their journey. I was looking for somewhere on here to do that & ran across this forum.

Hey Everyone;

Brenna- I think it is so funny that we did the same exercise(the 6 week 6 pack)  Great job using the 5 lb weight.  I didn't use any weight and I thought it was hard.  Hopefully after a month or two I will be able to add weights and stuff.

Jessica- don't you love the elliptical.  I wish I had access to one of those.  I'm going to a hotel a few days in Feb and a few days in March.  I know the march hotel has an elliptical, I'm hoping the Feb one does too.

Hi Wanda;

Welcome.  Of course, Join right in!  It has helped me to know that everyone can see if I exercised or not.  It got me off the couch a few times.  I like how Brenna did her chart.  I'm going to try and do that for February, if I can figure out how.

Thanks. I had a kidney infection about 2 months ago and the dr. was more concerned about my blood pressure than the infection. He has me on a low dose bp/fluid pill which is controlling my bp but I want off of it. I lost 15 pounds before Christmas and hope to lose 10 more before I go back in March. I have beenout of the habit of exercising since it got cold. I turned 46 yesterday and decided that was a good time to get back on track so I walked 2.5 miles with my neighbor this morning. Thanks for keeping me accountable!

Wow Wanda, are you a night owl? I have to exercise as soon as I get home from work.  If I wait I won't do it.

Congrats on losing weight.  Are you dieting, or watchin what you eat also?  Or just exercising?

Yes, actually I am a night owl. My husband works nights and I get cranked up on some project or reading and stay up too late. I am trying to break that habit because I have been reading about the importance of getting at least 7 hours of sleep for better heart health and for weight loss. As far as the weight loss, I have been watching what I eat primarily doing low(not extreme)  carb because that has been the most successful for me in the past. I lost about 15 pounds a couple of years ago when my blood sugar was elevated. I am also trying to be better at portion control. I was on the go all day today so I didn't get any aerobic exercise in but I will do some weights again before bed.

Well. I just started back to exercising for the first time since the 1980s.

1/3 - 1 hr water aerobics at the Y

1/5 - 1 hr water aerobics at the Y

1/10 - 1 hr water aerobics at the Y

1/13 - 1 hr water aerobics at the Y

1/15 - 30 min lap swim + 1 hr water aerobics at the Y

1/17 - 1 hr water aerobics at the Y

1/19 - 1 hr water aerobics at the Y

1/21 - 25 min swimming

+ assorted days of shoveling snow

and today I picked up the paperwork to join a community weight loss challenge.  Man and woman who lose most percentage each get $500, plus everyone who earns enough points (by working out, attending presentations, weighing in, etv) is entered into drawings for cash, memberships to local gyms, and other healthy lifestyle prizes.  I want the $500!

Ok I am in.  I did excercise for last week in Dec. and and first 2 weeks in Jan. than slipped the whole third week  So I must start again.  I will keep my log on here and congratulations to all of you for making the effort to better health.

Jan 21:   Walk 3 miles with leslie sansone First time for 3 miles

Jan 22:  Last Chance  cd biggest losers   cardio and strength segments  I was sweating bad!

Jan 23:    Walk 3 miles with leslie sansone  and got some house work done too!  Much better than last week.

Jan 24:  Last Chance cd biggest lossers Stength arms, leg, push ups (ugh)

Jan 25:  Walk 3 miles with leslie sansone  Thats my five days in a row, worked good for me so my week is going to start Friday and end Tuesday with Wednesday and Thursday as rest days. Making a list of what I want to do each day and check them off is helping too.  Actually kept up with house work this week .  See you all next Friday!

Jan 28:  I got Kettlebells!  I did the learning video about them, and then did the two are swing and double armswing with 5 lb.  It is a learning experience, but is fun.  I was sweating just learning how to use them.  I am interested in finding a nice kettlebell workout cd if any one knows of one.

Jan 29:  I am doing Leslie Sansone 4 mile walk this week and stretch.  Remember that stretch is important to prevent injuries!  Which sets us back at least it has me at times.  My legs are sore from yesterday kettle bell, but can't wait for tomorrow to do them again! LOL

Jan 30: Kettlebell.  did 8 differnt swing  excercise 10 reps 3 time  except the last 2 I only made 1 rep.  It is amazing how you feel you worked hard but it doesn't seem it while you are doing it.  Still looking for a good video.

Jan 31:   4 mile walk with Leslie Sansone  with a stretch  Yea One month down 11 to go  LOL

Hey everyone:

I think we should start a new thread for February- that way we don't have to scroll  so much.  If anyone wants to start it before I do feel free!

I am so impressed at how well this is working and people are joining!!

Hey Brenna- I have to say again great job with the weights- I might try the 6 week 6 pack again tomorrow and I will try to use weights but I'm going to try 2 lbs.  Grad class?  Does that mean you are in college?

Wanda- Well I think I get too much sleep. I am usually falling asleep on the couch by 7 or 8.  You guys are putting me to shame with your weights- I will really try to add that more.

Kristin:  I want t live where you do!!!   I actually work for a YMCA but we are only a summer camp, we don't have a facility so no swimming pool.  And that contest sounds awesome.  $500 would be a great incentive for me!!!!

Hey Jessica- are you still out there?  we havn't heard from you in awhile.

Hi mom!!!  Glad to see you join.  When everyone can see if you exercised or not- has helped me get off the couch.

Good luck to everyone for the last week in January!  This is definiely the tough time for me.

HELP! I need an intervention! I have fallen off of the wagon! My plan is to get straightened back out tomorrow and get on the Wii for awhile. It has been a 3 ring circus at this house for several days.
