Mini challenge "Follow the Suit"

If ever a book cried out the category "Spades" it is Flint by Margaret Redfern.  This very short little novel (less than 200 pages) follows two young brothers conscripted into King Edward I's army of ditch diggers.  They literally shoulder their spades and march across England to prepare the foundation for one of the king's fortified castles in Wales as Edward strives to defeat Wales and Llewelyn ap Gruffudd.

I'm using Treason by Meredith Whitford in the "diamonds" category of royalty for this mini challenge.  It could also easily be used for the "clubs" conflict spot because of the War of the Roses subject matter.  My thoughts on this book are in the March "what are you reading" thread.

Noting that I completed the Royal Flush for the Poker Hand Bonus having completed Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten from the Classic Challenge.  I've commented on the reads in the month's reading notes.

Ace: Read the first or the latest book by an author:  Outlaw by Angus Donald, 5/13/2013, 3.5 stars

King: Read a book about any king:  King Arthur by Frank Thompson, 9/21/2013, 4 stars.

Queen: Read a book about any queen:  The Chessboard Queen by Sharan Newman, 2/23/2013, 3.5 stars.

Jack: Read a book about a real person who was NOT a royal, or a book about anybody named Jack:   Lady of the Butterflies by Fiona Mountain, 3/15/2013, 4.5 stars

Ten: Read a book with a Native American character, OR set in India OR set in the West Indies:  .The Betrayal of the Blood Lily by Lauren Willig, 2/18/2013, 3 stars.

The Poker Hand Bonus
Using the Categories of the Classic Challenge and/or the Un-Challenge, create the highest poker hand you can. You can do this as a stand-alone bonus in addition to completing one or both of the challenges, or you can use the books you read for the challenges to come up with your best hand. It’s up to you. In order from highest rank to lowest:

Royal Flush: Complete Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten all from one challenge

I finished the Follow Suit Bonus with the "hearts" section for romance with These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer.  It was an absolutely charming book with a precocious, gamine heroine and a mysterious and seemingly ominiscient hero.  This is the first Heyer book I've read and I would like some recommendations from her fans here on the forum for more of her really good ones.  I'm hooked nowcrying

Cheryl,  so glad you liked that novel.  Devil's Cub is something of a sequel, same characters only older.  Another real favorite is The Grand Sophy.
