RC on a book order!

I know that your books are offered in good faith.  Thank you!

Please note that I am seeking books in excellent condition, so there are certain books
books which would best be withheld.  Thanks for adhering to the following seven before
sending me your book.

1.  I am very sensitive to tobacco and mold.  I CANNOT ACCEPT books with the odor of tobacco
or mold.

2.  I am unwilling to accept any book which has been decommisioned from a public library.

3.  I am unwilling to accept a hardback book with a missing or torn dust jacket, with crushed
corners, or with a broken spine.

4.  I am unwilling to accept a paperback book with a creased spine, with creased covers, or
with crushed corners.

5.  I am unwilling to accept any book with writing, if even only a previous owner's signature,
stamp, or bookplate.  EXCEPTION:  A penciled-in price (as from a book sale) is okay.

6.  I am unwilling to accept any book with marking on the outer edges of the pages (Example:
bookstores sometimes use a marker pen on page edges to indicate that the book is to be released).

7.  I am unwilling to accept any book with more than 5 dog-eared pages.

Thank you in advance for wrapping your book protectively.

My book meets all of the criteria so I will be sending it off,  but my husband really wants to dog-ear 4 of the pages. I just can't let him because that is one of my pet peeves.LOL

On the RWAP's, I have received 3 books from 3 different genres in the past 3 days with obvious liquid damage(stained, wavy pages with texture change). One has been resolved with my credit returned.

No real vent and I'm not too upset, just felt the need to share.

Wow, that is one heck of an RC.

Sorry about your run of bad luck, I've had that happen to me before.

Thank you for sharing ; I am not sure that I would send them a book (even if the book was pristine) too many red flags . I think they should go to the store and buy a virgin book. Your husband is a treasure worth keeping. Too funny.

Honestly, if you are willing to send to them with this RC, I would photograph the book first so that you have proof of the condition it was in when you sent it. Just too many opportunities for them to find fault with the book....

I would have stopped reading that RC halfway through and declined. Someone that demanding is very likely to find fault with any book. it's really no skin off your nose to decline. Someone less picky will request it.

Sorry about your damaged books. I've gotten a few liquid damaged books myself. I come across it so often, it makes me wonder just how popular bathtub reading is.

Even a photo would not protect the OP from the first condition:

1.  I am very sensitive to tobacco and mold.  I CANNOT ACCEPT books with the odor of tobacco
or mold.

Bet they don't get many takers. I would steer clear for sure....just asking for trouble.

And hey, what the hell, go ahead and bend 4 corners. laugh

I'm actually surprised the RC didn't contain specific dimensions for the size and shape of the bent corners.

It's really easy for corners to get bent during shipping unless you use a box. I would not accept that RC!

After reading the sentence telling me there were SEVEN requirements, I would have just marked "doesn't meet conditions"....NOT dealing with THAT! I really do not see how half of that RC affects the read-ability of a book so that she would not accept it....it could seem that perhaps she is re-saler? But if that's what she wants, who are we to get upset? RCs don't upset me, I just rarely accept them for the shear effort many of them (including this one) take to not only READ but to double and triple check your book to ensure it is up to "par."

I would have declined that.  That person is just way too picky.  What will you do if they complain about something stupid?

LOL... your DH has a great sense of humor!

I always try to work with RCs, but I'd make an exception in this case.  Way, way too demanding for a used book swapping site.  I'd turn it down in a heartbeat.

Just because someone has rigid RC's doesn't make him/her a resaler. Some would say I have strict RC's (it really depends on the book for me, and if it's one I am planning to keep. If it's a keeper book, I'm a bit more picky about the condition). It's possible this person has just gotten burned too many times, or likes "new" things and this is a cheap way for him/her to get books that appear new or are new.

I think in this person's case, they would have better luck waiting for really good coupons from Borders and B&N, or only buy books when they are on an amazing sale. I can't imagine either that he/she gets a lot of books. I'd be declining this RC as well, even though most of the books I have meet their conditions. I would not be willing to take the chance that something would happen to it en route (because it would be just my luck!) and that I'd then have to give the credit back.

I'd have to decline because even though I might not smell tobacco they might. Even a brand new book from borders or B&N is not real way to get a copy that has not been exposed (those that read it and return it).
I do not mind allergy RCs but yeah to me that RC seemed like someone wanting to get gifts for friends or wishing to put them on ebay.

What's wrong with wanting to get gifts for friends? smiley

Anyway, that RC is a real doozy, I would accept it anyway if my book met the criteria, but then, I am not afraid to refuse a credit return for an unwarranted RWAP. (Not that I get lots of RWAPs .... but if I did get one, and either I knew for certain that it was wrong or the book was damaged en route and not by me, not afraid to just say, sorry, I don't agree and leave it at that.)

I don't think any of my books would please this RC.  It sounds as though a new book might not even please this one.  Good luck with this one.

I would probably accept the request....but I would have use the PBS postage so  would already have the credit. She can write as involved  of an RC as she wants, but I wonder how many books she actually gets.

Frankly, just looking at the RC list I would have declined. That's a whole lot of trouble waiting to happen, and I've declined on less because the RC was so very subjective. Please let us know how the transaction goes!

Yup, I'd have declined at "excellent condition" and would have been snickering at the idea of counting dog ears - sounds like a new book from Amazon wouldn't pass muster for this requestor.  Good luck with it.

I'd be willing to wade through that RC.  She has strict conditions, but to me they are very clear.  It's the vague ones that make me leery.

Love your DH's remark!

Yeah, I'm usually happy to work with RCs, but that one would have frightened me away.

I'm with DH!  That's hilarious.

Ditto this.  #s 4, 6 and 7 are just OTT and I would deny on those alone.  I wonder how many declines that RC receives.

I'm just wondering what happens to the book if it has 5 or more dog-earred pages?????

I don't care if the book I had that this person requested was brand new and never read.....................I'd turn it down flat. Wayyyyyyy to picky.

OK, I'm off to dog-ear 6 or more pages in a book to see what happens..................if I'm not back in 20 minutes................send help!
