I ordered a book (deal) from this member in November. It never arrived. I was given a tracking # by the sender. The tracking # only ever showed it being purchased. The package went lost in December.

A bit later in December I came upon this members shelf with another book I wanted (again in a deal as they have an on going deal posted on their profile). Same story, books never arrived, but this time no tracking # was provided. Package eventually was considered lost.

I talked to my postmaster about the first package with the tracking # one day while in the po & she looked it up. She said there was a chance it had been "misplaced" at the members local post office so out of curiosity she emailed them. Not 3 days later this member messaged me saying one of these lost packages had been returned to her & she was going to remail them priority that very next day. I told her priority wasn't necessary & that I would mark it as received through my transaction archive when it arrived.

I thought great & went ahead & ordered yet another book (no deal this time) from this member. (We have very similar reading likes & she has over 1200 books posted, lots of only copies available).

Well now we're 9 days away from this last book going lost & the found package has never arrived. I messaged to let her know so she didn't think I just wasn't marking it as received & to see if she did indeed remail as promised & if she could check tracking. No response.

I've even contacted tptb to see if I was the only one not receiving packages from this member & was just told they'd look into.

Is it just my requests not being sent or going losts?? I'm very frusterated & not understanding why my message going unanswered. All packages are given tracking numbers now so she should be able to see what's going on. And if these packages are actually being mailed why is this member not concerned about so much wasted money in postage, being out the credits & books!?! And if they're not actually ever mailed why does she waste my time by marking them mailed & just not cancel!?

Sounds to me like someone who is simply not mailing them, but using the 'lost in the mail' as an excuse.  Though we all have had a package go lost, I just don't believe in coincidence having this happen repeatedly to the same person.

My only advice is don't give up. Ask for the tracking numbers. Some people think it's just no big deal and they take advantage others. Very sad.

I concur, sounds like the other member is just not mailing them. I had a similar thing happen with a member: requested a book (she had the only copy), she accepted, mailed, went lost in the mail. About a month later that book became available again from the same member, she accepted, marked mailed, it went lost in the mail. Another month or so passes and she posts the book again, and we went thru the whole thing again. I found it suspicious that she had multiple copies of the same obscure British book that she kept posting...I really think she just never mailed it ever, and because it went lost the 1st time, it went to my WL so every time she posted it it was offered to me again. After the third time I contacted TPTB and asked them to look into it. I never heard the outcome and I was ultimately offered the book by another member.

You did the right thing contacting PBS. Some members don't understand that by not following thru they are preventing the requestor from getting the book they want...they just see it as "well, you got your credit back"...yeah, but I wanted the book!

it is odd the member would have so many books on her shelf but not mail requests. Maybe she doesn't understand how the club works.

Well, OTOH, I've had some recurring trouble lately with getting my last several several requests taken care of (Once I mailed it late due to a misunderstanding with my son. Another time, I used some old tape that came loose, and made my package undeliverable so it was, thankfully, returned to me and I could mail it back out with an apology. Most recently, I had one I'd packaged for dropping in a blue box somewhere in the course of my day, stolen out of my taxi.) so I know that sh*t can happen, sometimes over and over again. OTOH, however, having said that, in all these instances, I was in touch with the requestors in question and let them know everything I did as soon as I knew anything. I certainly never dodged their PMs for days and was always sure to check in, just in case they'd said anything to me.

Does seem odd and that she might not be mailing.  That said I had 15 books go "lost" in the mail in one week (to different people).  Turned out the mail box I dropped them into near the post office was hit by a car and most of the mail was lost in the resulting fire (car caught fire).  So ended up losing the credits for the books, the postage and the books themselves. Wasn't a good week!  But that is extenuating circumstances and I doubt something like that is happening repeatedly.

oh, Tory, that sounds like my bad luck trying to get mail to my sister a few years ago.  I was traveling and sending out postcards regularly for each stop I made.  She was only one not getting any.  Turns out the 'mailman' was not delivering the mail !  He was caught with a trunk full of undelivered mail !
