at pacific service credit union they are doing a promotion

where you get 50.00 when you open a new account!

you walk out of the back with a atmcard with 50 !

If a credit union is giving away money for opening an account, they must have some serious problems indeed. I prefer credit unions over banks, but I would stay away from this one.

Plus the 'free' money you are getting, counts as interest when it comes tax time.

Lots of places are doing it these days.  One bank in my area has the same deal, and another bank is giving away $100 for opening an account.  These offers are only good for the person they mail the card out to though.

If you get a referral from someone, you can get $25 for opening an ING account.  I think you have to put in $200 or $250 of your own money.  And the person who referred you gets $10.

ING is great, but their interest rate is 1/3 of what it was 2 years ago!  But it is still 10x what my bank pays.  Every extra penny of our money goes into ING and I only use my local bank for a checking account and for cashing checks.
