Hi, everyone! I'm a 5th grade teacher who is just learned about literature circles. I'm trying to get myself a library of books for this level. My students range from a 4.5 reading level up to about a 5.5-5.7 reading level. Does anyone have sets of at least 6-8 of the same book that would fit this age level? Any idea where I can get books like this for a small charge. I've checked Scholastic but at $3.50-$4.50 a book, I'm looking at $35 a pop.
Thanks for any help! Stephanie Last Edited on: 4/18/09 5:57 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

My advice would be to try ebay. Usually you can find other teachers selling lots of the same book for alot less than scholastic. Also, there are scholastic warehouse sales a couple of times a year. I know the one around us is in the beginning of december. Usually all of the end of the year ones are during the month of december It is for teachers, homeschoolers and volunteers. You can usually get 50%-80% off the books. Since it is in a warehouse, the boxes of books are just on shelves and you can take as many copies of the book as you need. They also have a coupon for 10 dollars off 50 dollars, so you save money that way too. Just go to scholastic.com and in the search engine, type in Warehouse sale. They almost always have them in every state. I hope that helped! |

Try Craigslist. I have seen quite a few sets of the same book for sale for teachers in my area, so I would think there would be some for your area. eBay would be quicker, but you might find something cheaper on Craigslist.com.

Cassie-Lee...........I went and checked out the Scholastic site and there is one of the Warehouse sales at the local college in December! I'm so excited! I printed out the flyer and am taking it to school tomorrow to see if I can get a few other teachers interested. Barbara.........Thanks for the craigslist recommendation. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I check it often for sporting good items.
I just have a lot of credits and was hoping that maybe I'd spark someone's interest and get a few here. |

Thanks for the suggestions, Cynthia! I actually have both of those and the kids love them! We just read 4 new ones (novels that I have never read, either) and they were all just excellent! I have been reading like crazy just to keep up with the kids and the 4 books I have going on at one time.
I am still looking.................so, any teachers that have sets of the same book, please contact me!!!

I have ordered multiple copies for my classroom through PBS. Takes some time, but can be accomplished. Order, and as soon as it is accepted, you can order the next one. |
