Excellent and diverse., June 6, 2004
Reviewer: A reader
This book is hardly a book based on atheism. Rather, it takes into account historical documents and broad usage from different religions and how they viewed angels. This book is for someone who is interested in different backgrounds of the origin of angels. It takes cultural historic accounts into context, and leaves the restrictions of the holy bible behind. This book is definitely not for close minded Christians.

Patty R.'s review is accurate and I could not agree more.

"Angels" is a two part book, encompassing four "Wings" and seven "Chapters":
Part One; The Treasure of Angelic Lore: Heavenly Hierarchy, Hell's Angels, Heaven's Above, The Heresy
Part Two; An Endangered Species: Eye Witness, Ancient Encounters, Modern Encounters, Archaic Memories, The Shining Ones, Heavenly Hypotheses, Last Judgement

This book is packed with vibrant color images from sources such as historical artwork to CD cases (Led Zepplin), black-and-white graphics from sources such as Angelic Script, the Tree of Life, and historically significant engravings.

More of a coffee-table type of book, it's difficult to use this as a reference tome due to the fact that the chapters are not laid out intuitively, nor are specific names introduced alphebetically. Rather, specific chunks of subject are addressed per section. However, current thought and "history" are more prevalent in this tome, including references to angels made by real people, as the author describes different traditions and theories a bit more than the more encyclopaedic books such as "Angels A to Z" or "A Dictionary of Angels" do.

All in all, I feel this is a pretty good investment for everyone from middle school to adulthood with an interest in angels and their history to enjoy.
