Thanks Darlene - your directions are easier than the method I was using which sometimes just got to the right page rather than right post.

Solutions are more helpful than complaints as you say.

Amanda S or Mel, as Darlene has been kind enough to post the method to link to original posts (and she actually sent me personally a method to create the links for books as well), perhaps these could be added to the post at the top every month, so everyone has a chance to know how to do these things?

Link Your Post for Updates

Each month just create one post and keep it updated. When you do update your post, link to it and post a reply to the thread stating you’ve updated your original post. To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. 1. Go to your My Profile page, click on the blue link under Forum Posts.
  2. 2. Find your specific post for your list of books here and click "View Inline"
  3. 3. Once at that page, right click and copy the link for it. Then come here to paste that link into a new post. (if you need further help on creating links, please ask! :))

Using the method listed in the first post has never worked for me.  It always directed to a blank post.

Thanks, Darlene, for the other method.  Hopefully I can manage that one.

That is odd because they are the same instructions, Darlene's is just more detailed in the description of what your are doing. Hopefully with more details you are able to get it to work for you!

I've added one more book to my list on the bottom of pg 1.  Call me computer illiterate, as I can get the link to copy, but it is still not showing up in blue.

I use go to the Discussion Forums.  

Click on Search All Forums in gray box.

Search my Member Nickname in white box.

It brings every single post up that I've ever posted.  Click and copy the link where it says "View Inline".  View Inline takes you directly to that post.

I agree with Darlene, but I'm no good at explaining how to do it.  and  Susan D. , I don't have much of a shelf because I mostly post WL books that I buy new about every 2 months or so. I really put a lot of money into this site. and I have decided to only add books to my shelf that have no more than 5 copies .

The remedy to providing titles and authors is by typing them. No need to learn how to provide links at all. Just simply type what has been added. If peeps see titles or authors that they're interested in they will request them - books will move faster. It benefits everyone.

I'm not sure how those who have 'complained' have suddenly turned into the bad guys.

One thing for people to remember is that many users are on mobile devices now. Links are much harder (if possible at all) and typing can be tedious to just get the basic information input. We certainly don't want to exclude members just because they have a device that they cannot post a link from (one of the reasons a link or ISBN is allowed for identification purposes).

Everyone can read, or ignore, whatever lists they chose. There can be a lot of great books offered by people who only list titles and ISBNs, and by people who only go back and update their lists without posting a new post saying what they added. I encourage people to not just watch the last post, but go through all the posts in the thread when you have time, you might find something new posted you really want!

Always good for discussion Lisa. I think a few people who didn't know how to do it know now! Everyone is right that the more work put into the post to make it easy for lookers to see what you have to offer, the better chance your books have of getting requested. 

I just wanted people to know why any linking would not be a requirement in the thread as someone had asked. I think a lot of people on a PC just don't realize how different things are on some of the other devices.

I didn't know that you had to click on the words view inline to make the link go to that post, one time I clicked on a different part of the line, then when I checked the link it took me to the first page of the post (not my post). So it matters what part you choose to copy.
