I have a CD that I bought someone for their birthday.  Amazon was supposed to send it directly to them.  Instead they sent it to me.

The person is a member here and I'd like to do postage and a DC is this possible?  Do I do it in the custom DC?  Oh me, oh My.  Can any one helpme?

Thanks!

Yes, I believe you can do it in the custom DC.
Long as the item meets media mail rules :)

If Amazon made the mistake, why aren't they fixing it?  In any event, I know at least one way to do it, but someone else may need to say if it's allowable...not sure why PBS would have a problem with it since they make money off the transaction, but there might be a reason.

First you need to know how much the CD weighs...I guess from Amazon or somewhere, plus add a little for packaging.  Then you can add a "dummy" book to your bookshelf...something with a ton of copies in the system.  Once you have the book on your bookshelf, click the book link to get the details.  Over to the right side, click on "Mail this book to a friend".  Then you will get a screen to fill in the "friend's" name and address and then after that, it's the normal PBS label/DC page.  You'll have to change the weight to whatever the real weight is.  And are CD's "media mail"? I don't know.  If not, you'll need to click First Class.  When you are all done, don't forget to go back and delete the dummy book off your bookshelf.

Now watch...some smart person is going to come along behind me and say "Oh no, you don't have to do all that....here's this quick easy button to do it!"   LOL  which would be great because then I would learn something new :)

Christa, that's how I do it - I post a very common book to my shelf and then mail it to a friend.  Really easy!

Just a little note.  PBS does allow you to do a custom DC for anything.  I found it in the help docs.

I know this weighs 5 oz so I have the label and just have to put the postage on it.

Christa I like you method.  I wanted to sent it first class anyway.

It's Amazon's mistake but by the time they fixed it - well it'd probably be in time for Christmas.  LOL

Thanks!

Custom DC does not use PBS postage, it is equivalent to PBS-DC only. The only way to send using full PBS postage is the way Christa explained (and I am quite impressed Christa - you haven't been here that long :-) )

Don't be too impressed.....I'm just nosy and have spent way too much time surfing around the site.  It's like a new toy that I'm obsessed with!  And then I complain because I don't have enough time to actually read the books on my TBR!  LOL

I have to say that I keep a "dummy" book that has literally thousands in the system.  In this case it is a Dan Brown book.  I think he has the most of any titles in the system.  So that's the one I use and the send to a friend method.  Works like a charm.

Christa and Ruth, that's what I did I have a book that's gotten loney because nobody wants it.  That's the one I used.

Melanie you're right, it was just a 19 cent charge to the DC and a nice label which I canceled.
