I have a hard cover book that is in excellent condition, except for the dust cover. It has a 3 inch tear on the front of it. Does this make it unpostable?
Also, I have a book I've been reading for a book club. It is not postable as the cover is quite worn and there is highlighting and writing on some pages. The book has a wait list of 23 people. Is there somewhere I can post this in case there is someone who doesn't care about my markings?
Thanks! |

Hi Nancy. In regards to the hard cover book, a dust jacket is not required for posting a hardcover (unless the person ordering lists in their requestor condition) so you could just remove it prior to mailing out. For the other book, you can list this in the book bazaar forum. You can also try posting in the book genre forum. There is usually a post for any book deals, promotions, etc. where you could list your book. |

I disagree with Nicole -- I would send the dust cover with the book even with the tear. Because dust covers are not required, a tear on the dust cover will not make it unpostable (unless someone has an RC about it). I don't require dust covers with my books but I definitely prefer them and would rather receive a book with a torn dust cover than none at all. Tape the dust cover on the wrong side so the tape doesn't show...not breaking any rules and you will stop the tear from getting worse. |

I completely agree with you Sally that this is another option that I failed to include in my post. Last Edited on: 4/12/11 12:18 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

For the book club book: If the writing/highlighting is the only thing that makes it unpostable, you can post it under the textbook/workbook exception. That requires that you PM the requester and let them know of the extent of the writing/highlighting and wait for them to accept the condition. If they do not accept it, then you would need to cancel the transaction with them. If the general condition of the book is unpostable, you can offer it in the Book Bazaar and/or list it in your signature line, profile or bookshelf header offering it as a freebie with a request or asking for a credit for it. For the dust jacket: If there is an RC asking for the dust jacket, then it needs to be postable and you would want to deny the RC. If there is no RC, I'd include the torn jacket and let the receiver decide if they want it or not. From the Help Center:

I would send the dust jacket too. Let them decide about it. |

Yes, please send the dust jacket. It is postable as long as the other member does NOT have an RC requiring a dust jacket (in which case, the dust jacket must follow the PBS rules for "book cover" condition and would not meet the RC because it has a rip larger than 1 inch). |
