I'm new here and I'm reallu excited to have found this website.  I've just begun to post my books.  Some of the books I have are on other readers wishlists, but have different ISBN numbers.  How do let someone know that you have a match, but with a different number?  Also, is there a 'most requested list'? I have hundreds of books I can post, but it would be helpful to know which ones to list first.  Thank you so much.

Welcome to PBS!

There isn't a way to know who has those "different ISBN" books wishlisted, but some folks receive e-mail notification if a different version of a book on their WL is posted to the system. (It's an option that not all are signed up for though.) There is, I think, a thread in the forum called "Book Bazaar" that allows people to post a list of books that are wishlisted that you have alternate versions of, though. You could try that.

If you go to "top 50's" you will see a link to the most requested/most wished for books there, but it's only the top 50, obviously. Really the only way to tell for sure is to do a search on the ISBN and bring up the details of the book and see how many are wishing for it--it will tell you that information if there are people wishing for your book! If there isn't anyone who has it wishlisted, there will be an 'order this book' button, which means there's at least one copy already in the system. To see how many, you can put it on your Reminder List and then go check how many there are ahead of the one you'd be posting.

Hi Donna--

Welcome to PBS!

If you post a wishlisted book with a different ISBN, the system does send an email to members waiting for that book to let them know.  You can also post in this thread on the Book Bazaar: http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=119538

It is hard to say what books to post first, but I'd say put the really common ones, like John Grisham or Oprah Book Club titles, on the bottom of your pile -- there are usually tons of those in the system (they will still get requested, just not as fast).  Post your more unique titles first -- the ones not as widely read, not shown on Oprah, etc.  Also, cookbooks and crafting books seem to go very fast here, so you might post those first if you have any.

Cheers,

Catt

The system doesn't always work with notifying us of different ISBNs, so another good way is to look at the versions that are WLed, and Tag them with "available under ISBN (your number)"   Just remember to go delete the tag once your book gets ordered!!

In the time it takes you to figure out which of those hundreds of books are already wishlisted, you could have posted a few hundred of them using the "post multiple books" feature, or the "upload a file of isbns" feature.   All you have to do is type the isbns as fast as you can into a text file, upload it, and confirm that the titles and bindings are correct.

Alternatively, if you only want to post wishlisted and/or titles that have only a few copies in the system, once you have that file list, you can open it in a browser and use the "book list import bookmark" feature link at the bottom of the page to place all those books on your reminder list, where you can see how many copies are in the system.  (note, though, that you currently have to put a blank line between each isbn, and it doesn't recognize isbn numbers that end in 'x').

Also what version of those books are WL?  If you are posting mass market paperbacks that are already in the system and the WL lines are for hardback, audio or large print-then most likely that's the book they want.  A lot of people think they have a WL book because one version of that book is WL but really there's already a bunch of copies of that version posted.  So I would put them on my reminder list to see how many copies of your version are posted. If there's a bunch than most likely the WL know it's there and they specifically want the version they have WL.  I have some James Patterson books on my WL in audio CD form.  They're readily available in pb and hb. But I only want the CDS.  I turned off the other version email reminder because I was getting 20 emails from PBS everyday.

If I post a WL book that has no ISBN, has the same binding but dif ISBN than the one that's WL-then I post it in the book bazaar. You can also tag the one that's WL w/the ISBN of the book you posted-tag it "posted w/ISBN#xxxxx".  Usually if it's a version that's not in PBS already, they get snapped up pretty quickly just from being on the books posted today page.
