You have to have a valid mailing address. If you just moved into a brand new house there is a possibility that your house address hasn't been officially "validated" by the Post Office. What I have read about is that it may take 90 + days and what some people will do is use a friends mailing address until it clears up.

Barb, if your address isn't new and you're getting the invalid message, you have to check with the post office website to see how they want your address typed out. Go to the help center and under "browse topics" type in "address validation". There's more information, including a link to the post office site.
