I had a book requested from my bookshelf and then the woman asked that it be sent to Canada. (see my other post about that). Well, I told her I could send to her, but not out of the country. I accepted that I could send the book, as it's about ready to time out of the system, and I didn't want to miss it and get a strike. Well, so far, it seems that's not good enough and she's getting more persistant. I copied and pasted the rules, and sent them, and am waiting to hear back from her to confirm she wants the book, but I'm now wondering if I should have ever accepted this book. I know I can still cancel, but will it go against me if I cancel?

I've worked hard to be a good member here, and I don't want to see an unnecessary strike against me.

If you cancel, you lose the spot in the FIFO line, so I wouldn't do that.  I think at this point, I'd try sending a feedback to the PBS team, to alert them of the trouble you're having and haven't been able to resolve yourself.  I wouldn't send the book (to the US address or elsewhere).  There is absolutely no reason why you should be expected to pay the extra postage to Canada.

I'd definitely alert the PBS team, they can see your PM's and if need be they can cancel the order and you not lose your place in the FIFO line...I certainly wouldn't pay the extra postage to send the book to Canada.

I'd just cancel it and move on.  You don't want to send the book where she wants it sent.  You've told her that and she insisted.   I'd now cancel it.   Why bother the team about a problem you can easily solve?

Cozi- I think she should contact the team as well. PBS is not open to Canadian membership and the team should be alerted to this. She will also lose her place in the FIFO line if she is the one who cancels.

I think this is the kind of thing that is okay to bother the team with.  For one thing, I can understand her not wanting to lose her place in the FIFO line. Also, if this member is asking her to ship to Canada (and being persistant about it), I'm sure she isn't the only person the other member is causing problems for.  The team Should be notified so they can contact this member or suspend her account until she agrees to follow the rules.

I do, too. They could take care of it with a quick word to the other member.

I agree with the others. If the requestor won't agree to your & the site's terms to send only within the country, then either cancel the order or contact the PBS team so they can cancel it for you & put you back in the front of the line.

I personally wouldn't worry about my place in FIFO for this one book-but I agree that it's something that needs to be reported to PBS if she's harassing you about it.  My guess is that yours is the only copy or she would be trying someone else by now.

I am with Cozi. Cancel it. Don't worry about FIFO business.

Don't worry about a "strike" against you for canceling. One cancel won't damage your good standing. You have to do a lot more to get disciplined or kicked off PBS than to cancel one weird book request.

Good advice above, you don't have to endure harrassment . . . especially for something outside of PBS membership guidelines

Let the team know -- otherwise she'll be ordering books from someone else.  I like Canadians, but until we have a deal with Canada where postage is the same between the 2 countries, PBS is only open to US residents and people with US addressed (APO, DPO, etc.)

Don't worry about canceling.  When you do, you have the opportunity to state why you're canceling.  I've canceled two books in the last 6 weeks when I have discovered just before mailing a problem that made them unpostable.  I explain it when I cancel, and I haven't heard anything from the PBS team.  I really don't think they will ding you for trying to stay within site rules.

Thank you to everyone that helped me on this. I'm sorry I didn't get back sooner - it was Parent's Weekend at my son's university and we got back later than expected.

I appreciate all the help!

Well, I canceled the request, but there was no box that came up to put why I canceled. Is this something new?

Theresa - I would really encourage you to inform TPTB about a member that is persistant that you send a book to a non-US address. Not only is it unfair to the senders to get additional (costly) requests in PMs after they accept a request, but site admin really should know that someone is trying to circumvent the sites mailing policies.

I did contact The Team and they said I should not have canceled the book, but should have let them do it instead. They need to be informed of this so they can take care of any confusion. By canceling, I possibly made more of a mess. :( So, with that said, I'm posting what happened, so that it may help someone else in my position from making the same mistake.
