Cain's debut novel here is its own accident and not deserving of some of the higher ratings it received at Amazon.com. In short, I didn't feel entertained by either the characters or the plot. This is a common shortfall in much of the commercial fiction we see today and a good reason why so many books labeled "Thrillers" have come with contrived plots and unsympathetic characters. While the premise sounded promising enough to make me buy the book, it failed to deliver on the thrills. The opening action scenes were especially horrendous, a chase that went on for half again the number of pages it needed to. If you like the works of authors like David Morrell or Andy McDermott, I'd recommend skipping this one.
