I found this thriller deeply engaging--not for any one characteristic like plot, setting, whatever--but because it carries a feeling of reality. It has that quality so many try to get, but fail: "This could happen to me."
I first heard about this novel through a review by Christopher Treagus: he writes, "What I liked about this story is that it is about an average man who gets embroiled in a plot that spreads across the entire nation, involving murder, intrigue, and greed. Josh Michaels could have easily been any one of us. Yes, he has made some mistakes in his life, but who hasn't? Should we be subjected to pay for them over and over again - or as brutally as he? Josh Michaels' life becomes a very real case of Murphy's Law - anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. It starts off bad, and then just gets worse. Like classical tragedies, it is all brought about by his own flaws."
Treagus gives Accidents Waiting to Happen his "4 Book Wyrms" (4 Stars) rating. Go forth to the always entertaining Feo Amante website and read the review in its entirety.
Oh, and Simon Wood has at least one other novel in the system:
Paying the Piper.

Very intriguing. A good book, kept me wondering what was going to happen. At the same time, it wasn't too gory or gross. Just a good read!
