Grace Livingston Hill writes very innocent, very old-fashioned romance. Compared to most of the books of Ms. Hill's that I have read, this one feels more gritty and real (if you can use those words in reference to Ms. Hill's books at all!)...definitely dealing with a more serious subject matter. I'm reading it for the second time, and it strikes me again how different the times in which she wrote were. This is a wife fighting for her marriage, for her husband--going toe to toe with a woman some would consider more refined, more beautiful, and definitely wealthier, and determined to never back down. Best of all, she finds God in the middle of everything. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Grace Livingston Hill.
