There are so many questions here (on many of the forums) about shelves on hold; "someone ordered a book, but now their shelf is on hold", or "they sent me a book, but now their shelf is on hold", or "I need to PM someone but their shelf is on hold", etc, etc. It would be nice if we could put a "hold message" up so folks know what the deal is, like, "Hey, I'm still checking in everyday, but I'm out of postage for the rest of the month", or, "I'm busy until the 20th, if you PM me, I'll answer after that date", or "Books received will be checked in on the day they're received even tho I'm currently on hold". I can think of loads of reasons to leave a little message and I know it would cut down on all the worried posts and people. Just a thought. What do you think? |

I guess it could be helpful to people who worry about stuff like that. I have never gone to check to see if a shelf is on hold ... and I've had more than 700 transactions since I've joined. I don't see how the knowledge would be helpful to me personally at all. I just let the system do what it does. |

You can use the blue header on your bookshelf page to say whatever you want. I did use it the last time I went on vacation hold. Ruth |

Hi, Ruth, how do you access the blue header on the bookshelf page? What are the rules for it? Thanks. Jack |

That's what I've done, is used the header on my bookshelf. Matter of fact, I just leave it up all the time (you can check it out now on my shelf). Jack, go to your account, then click on My Bookshelf. Right above where your list of books starts, on the left side of the screen (it will be above the pictures), there is a button that says something like, "Edit my Public shelf header" or something like that. Just click on it and away you go. I'm unaware of any rules about using it. Maybe no profanity LOL. |

i also have never worried about a shelf on hold. |

I think thats a great idea. |

That header is a wonderful thing! |

Do we even get to see the blue header when a shelf is on hold? I thought the screen just had the pink banner saying the shelf was on hold across it. I think it would be helpful to some members and can't see that it would that hard to add. |

Cool, I just added a message to my header. I feel so important now. ;D |

I don't get why having a shelf on hold is a worry. If you order a book or they order a book from you and then put their shelf on hold, it does't affect those transactions at all. Of course - once I order a book from someone it would never occur to me to look up their profile to see if it was on hold or not. I order - they send - that's all I need to know. I put mine on hold now and then. I don't see the need for a message. |

I know someone who has their shelf on hold. You still see the profile along with the pink banner saying that it is on hold. I'm wishy-washy about it. Sometime yes, sometime don't matter to me. Most of the time it doesn't matter though. |

Most times it doesn't bother me. In stead of a banner - I would prefer if I sent a PM and the shelf is on hold you receive a out of membership notice (kind a of like out of office message with outlook). When I am out of the office and someone sends me a email -a auto reply is sent to them letting them know I am not in the office and when to expect a reply or how to reach me etc. When someone sends a PM I receive a copy in email - could be along the same lines. Or if there is a transaction pending - notices are sent to the members that the transaction is pending with a note. If something was done - I would prefer being notified not having to track down. |

I frequently go on hold-usually because I dont' want any WL offers for awhile. I'll put a note in my profile so if I have an autorequested WL book or I've posted a WL book people know why my account is on hold. I'll autorequest any hard to find books. |

It is nice to know if they are still available while it is on hold. So you know that books sent will be marked received and PMs will be answered. Such as hold due to school or budget. But I don't think that there needs to be anything if they are on hold because of travel. Probably safer if there is no mention of that. |

You still see the profile along with the pink banner saying that it is on hold - You can see their profile, but not their blue shelf header right? I don't think putting it in the shelf header alone would do any good. |

I don't worry about accounts on hold since I've done it so often myself, but I always do put a note for those people who worry on my profile page stating that I will be around to mark books received and such. (My wishlist stays on auto-request when the account's being held.) I'm not sure you could see the header on the bookshelf if the account is on hold--usually you get a message saying "this person has their account on hold" and it doesn't show you the shelf. Cheryl |

Okay, let's do an experiment -I'll put my account on hold for a little while with a blue header - and y'all look to see if it shows! I don't want to be on hold for long,though...too many books I'm in the running for. Ruth |

Has anyone looked yet? I saw it when I looked but I wasn't logged out. Ruth |

Yes, we can see it in the upper right corner of the screen. Thanks for testing it Ruth. It was bugging me not knowing and I couldn't find a shelf on hold. |

Great - it makes me nervous to be on hold when I'm so close to a couple of books. But they are on auto-request! But it still makes me nervous!! ;D Ruth |

My shelf is on hold and I have a notice in both my banner and my profile, if anyone else wants to see what it looks like. I expect it will be on hold for several more weeks at least. Cheers, Catt |
