Sometimes it pays to search the internet. I got in an argument (because I said yes to a question) with Miss Prissy and my local PO. She charged me the one ounce first class rate in addition to the media mail rate on my package because there was an "insert" in the package (actually it was the second sheet with a hand written note). I found this in the DMM (yellow highlighting is mine):
170 Retail Mail All the regulations for media mail start at: http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/170_cover.htm (I got the 44 cents back the next day from the branch manager. I can't believe I won!!! wc |

Way to go Wayne! I am always glad to see when a member takes a stand when a postal employee want to make up rules to take advantage of people. For what it is worth, that slip isn't even a personal message or greating, it is a packing slip/invoice and that is always includable with Media Mail. |

Thanks for posting this handy info! I regret to report we have the worst post office near our house. I can easily envision repeating your experience with them. Given what we've already experienced with them, I would cherish reciting regulations to them. But now that I am up to speed, that probably won't be the reality. One never has the fights they are prepared for ... why is that? lol |

Wayne - Good for you. I am happy to hear the supervisor made it right. Many employees do not know they can charge the 44 cents let alone what is allowed to be included without charging it. I wish that was not true but I know it is. Susan - So true! |

Well done Wayne! An unfortunate number of postal employees do not fully understand the Media Mail regulations. |
