Generally speaking, it isn't... more » the novelty of sexual activity, though that plays a part, nor is it the possibility for creative change, except in the most basic biological sense, that gives sex its compelling nature. Sex, in fact, is just too important to the survival of the human race to depend on novelty or creativity. We don't find sex pleasurable because it is creatively done, but because we are built to find it pleasurable, even in its most mundane forms. In other words, the sexual act isn't part of the superstructure of human life, it's part of the basic structure. We can survive with out architecture, without art, without even language. But we can't last without sex.« less
