My children age 10 & 12 loved this book. The author writes a wonderful engaging story based on Genesis. She explains the this is how it could have happened. I teach my children both creation and evolution theories though I believe in the Bible's account. I understand this is a belief just as the theory of evolution/big bang is a belief that it all happened by accident. We are all free to believe in a creator or not and who that creator is. Too bad some children never get to hear the story how God created the world and how much he loves us.

First of all, I do not come from a young earth/creationist viewpoint. In the interest of understanding that viewpoint though, I have selected a few texts to read, this being one of them. The author, Ruth Beechick, I was already familiar with, having read some of her homeschooling education/books. She is an engaging author who is able to encourage deep thought without unnecessarily complex or confusing writing. Her focus is clearly on encouraging in the reader introspection rather than the focus being on her own writing complexity or skill. Even younger readers can enjoy this book and pick up a lot from it, sparking questions and discussion.

Beechick starts off freely admitting that this is how it could have happened, and then proceeds with an engaging tale of biblical times. Even if you are not a creationist, you can enjoy the story and familiar characters. If you are new to the creationist idea, you can gain an understanding of the viewpoint, written in an intelligent and engaging way. The brief bibliography in the back is also a nice jumping point for learning more.

This book is thin (not overwhelming), well written and engaging.

History doesn't have to be drab. This book is entertaining, informative and remarkably easy to read. Though not a novel, it weaves into one continuous story information from many sources - - including the linguistics, archeology, astronomy, and other sciences; the Bible and other history; and ancient traditions and religions. It is neatly arranged within the timeline given in the Bible. This excursion through an almost forgotten world provides startling insights on many old questions.

Have history textbooks told us the truth?
How did man kind learn language?
Where did the skills of civilization begin?
Why do ancient writings refer to a year of 360 days?
What actual events lie behind the mythologies of the world?
Who kept alive the memory of the distant past?
