I was wondering how or if we can add new books to our WL's without having the ISBN?

Hi Kelli, can you search for the book by title and then when you click on the book, click "post this book"?  I think that would work?

i *think* what Kelli is asking is if you can put it on your WL before it's in the system with the ISBN.  in which case, no you can't add it to your WL.

or more technically, you *could* by creating an entry for the book (using post this book to do it), but since people will almost certainly post it using the real ISBN when the book comes out, that would just be kind of silly and probably confusing to everyone else.

there have been a few oddball cases where people have created entries for books that aren't out yet, and a bunch of people add it to their WL, but then when the real ISBN is finally in the system it's a totally different entry and all those people are on the wrong WL.  Example - this non-ISBN entry Queen of Song and Souls (Tairen Soul, Bk 4) was in the system months before the ISBN was available, and is still the one that comes up if you look at the books by author for C.L. Wilson.  the real ISBN entry Queen of Song and Souls (Tairen Soul, Bk 4) has more than 100 less wishers.   which is why it's a good idea to check that if you're putting something on your WL it has a real ISBN and not a short generated one unless you have a specific reason for using the generated ISBN.

but if you do find the ISBN elsewhere, and it isn't in the system here at PBS yet, do a search by ISBN using Advanced Search, and then check back a little while later.  that should get it in the system, but it takes a bit.

ok I will reveal my trick....add the book to your tbr pile, it should show up and then you can add it to your wl

Ashley, that works if the book is somewhere in the system and I can find an ISBN to enter.  Unless there's another method?

no I meant to mention you do need the isbn, but it works for books that aren't in the system yet.

To find an isbn i just type the title of the book and isbn into a search engine like yahoo

Ashley, I tried that just now and it didn't work but maybe the number is wrong. 9781841496863 is supposed to be the number for Bone Crossed paperback. Also tried 1841496863

weird, in all the tons of books I've added that has never happened.

I guess my numbers are UK so maybe they will be different for US.
