My son wants a book that comes out later this month - in fact he said he'd love me forever if i could get it so i know he really wants it. (LOL)

But i can't find it in any search. How do you find a book that isn't out yet and add it to your WL?

go to Amazon and get the ISBN number, that is the best way to find the book (at least in my experience!)

if you can look up the author's website and get the ISBN or find it on Amazon and get the ISBN, then you should be able to locate it on PBS.

If it comes out in a month, it should be in the system by now. Do a search on B&N or Amazon and get the ISBN, then use that to WL it. I'd bet it shows up that way.

If you list the book, I am sure there a members that would help find it in the system.

I'm trying to find Brisingr by Eoin Colfer. I can't find it on Amazon or B&N to get the ISBN. I'm getting a bit frustrated. I'm afraid i'm going to be on a VERY long WL by the time i figure this out.

That one is already long. 423 at this posting.

Oh, and it's by Christopher Paolini. Perhaps that's why you weren't finding it?

Hoo boy. Thanks, Jane. My son... *shakes head*... lol. So much for his 'favorite author'... lol. He doesn't even know who writes it. =)

423 is a lot of people... wow. But... que sera sera. Maybe it'll give me incentive to read the series, hehe.

FYI, I added it last month and already moved up 9 places. I think it will move quickly, since many people will just buy it on release (it's going to have discout prices at the box stores because it's the final in the trilogy), and I think a lot of people have caved in to pre-order (moving me up before release). A lot of people might see this book as a keeper, but quite a few will pass it on, just like they did Harry Potter last year. :)

ETA: correction: I've moved up 9 places in the last month. I added it in May, but tagged my location on the WL in July...

I may end up just buying the box set when it comes out. That'll save a lot of headaches. =) I am always telling him i'll buy him books to read, and i get the same old thing every time i offer. "Mom, i'll just read it from the school library." I don't know WHERE he gets this... i love books and the more of my 'loves' on the shelf the happier i am. But this summer, he learned he can't count on our local library to have anything he wants to read. Which i learned long ago but you gotta live it i guess to learn it.They are mighty selective about what they put on the shelves in a permenant manner, because of room constraints.

I always do this. As soon as I read or hear about something I want, I add it. And regardless of how far in advance it is, there are ALWAYS people in front of me! :-) But you find you definitely secure a better place in line that way. You COULD always buy it (when it comes out, it'll usually be 40% off most places) and then when your son is done, you'll be able to post it into the system with a guarantee of it being snapped up and you'll have another credit for a book your son might want next.

He may have just gotten author names mixed up, the one you were looking for originally writes the Artemis Fowl series.

Yea, what is so funny, Liesl, is he says Eoin is his favorite author, but he doesn't like the Artemis Fowl books, lol. I had to pat him on the head for that. Hes talking about how this year he gets to write to his favorite uthor and that's who he is picking. =)

Maybe he'll change his mind.

If it's fiction you're looking at...try going to

fantasticfiction.com

you can do searches under the author's names to see what and when they have things coming out and get their ISBN's (they have links to Amazon for that).  You can also just do a click on "coming soon paperback" or hardcover or do it by type of fiction.  They also have a "new" for books just out.  It's a great site for previewing what you might be interested in.

I caved and pre-ordered it and The Gypsy Morph (The Genesis of Shannara, Book 3) on Amazon.com for $32.95.    I want both for my keeper shelf, and so didn't want to wait only to get a book that smells like smoke or is not keeper worthy.

Also, how do you tag your location on the WL?

Oh, I added a tag with the number. (Yes, personal tag... shame, shame... But it's the only way I know of to log this info for WL books.) :-/

If someone has another way, I'm all ears!
