I was just looking through the Genre list on the search page and I noticed that "military" is not a listed genre. This is an interest of mine and I was wondering how that category might be added to the list. I know that a lot of military books would come under the heading of history, but not always. Is there someone I contact to ask this? |

Mark, Your best bet is to send the site owners some feedback suggesting that the genre be added. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page on the right hand side there is a link named "contact us". Good luck! I know my grandfather would enjoy a "Military" genre. |

I have a feeling the search paramaters are pretty much tied to the databases that PBS licenses (Amazon's for example), and i'm pretty sure they can't be edited. Might Military be a sub-genre under non-fiction, too? |

Under Literature & Fiction --> Genre Fiction --> War Under Non-fiction --> Current events --> War & Peace (there are other related topics here) Under History --> Military |

They can't add new genres because there's no good way to find all the existing database records that should be in the new genre and update them. Without that step, the only books that would ever get put into the new genre would be ones that members edit themselves or post without ISBNs. It would be possible to copy all the books in an existing genre over to a new genre, but that's a lot of bother when people can just use the existing genre to search. Plus they'd have to do this processing every time new records were added by the publishers. |

I also look for military books. Just a little time consumming. Sometimes I'll type in 'Iraq war' or 'soldiers' in the browser. I hope it comes up the books available, but it looks like there's not much available on 'Iraq war' right now. I also scroll down the page of a book that is available on the subject I want and I click on the blue links that list what Sara P. said.
