I have a children's book that was requested, I accepted it and then read the listing. The book came as "gift set" packaged. The listing doesn't specify anything about it. I am wondering if I offer it to the requester would it violate any PBS rules? Opinions? |

The issue is if the requestor thinks they are getting a "set". Does the book you posted have a separate ISBN? sometimes the books in a set each have their own ISBN, then a different ISBN on the "set" packaging. PBS rules do require if the book came with something, it should be included......like a CD, jewelry (there is a whole series of books for young girls that each come with a necklace), stuffed animal, etc. |

Non-media items are not required to be included with the book. If that is what the stuff is, that is likely why it is not in the listing description. If you offer it, be mindful of if the stuff will likely disqualify the book from going Media Mail. Also, be careful if you planned to ask for additional credits for the items. Even if the stuff does not have to be included, I don't think it is OK to ask for additional credits to include stuff that came with the book originally. If the items are media (other books, DVDS, maps, etc) they are required to be included to send the book. If the items are required to use the book, then the book can't be posted at all and the request should be cancelled. If the listing says the book is part of a set, and yours isn't, then first check the book for a different ISBN, as Jeanne suggested. If you don't find one you can either post your book without an ISBN (from the yellow bar at the top of the Post Books page) or you can click on the title, then on "more options" --> "edit book data" and try editing the listing. If the "set" includes non-media material -- jewelry, a slinky, clay -- then you could add a line at the bottom that says something like: The necklace and dice originally sold with this book are not included in this listing. I should add that this exclusion only works if the non-media materials are not essential to the book, or are commonly found in households. But if the "set" means that the book is part of a several book set, or that it includes other media material -- a CD, a booklet -- then you should post your book without an ISBN. |

no it's not a set as in series of books but a children's book with a small doll of the main character of the book. in no way necessary when/to read the book. It's just something that came with it. The ISBN is the same with or without it. The outside packaging when I bought the book was basically "book with bonus doll". My daughter didn't care for it when she got it so it went into the swap box together. As far as mailing together they weigh less than an ounce, which will still qualify for first class parcel. I did PM the requester about it and I'm waiting for a reply. I've even offered to send a picture of it. I have until the 30th to mark it mailed but would like to get it out sooner. |

If it weighs under an ounce anyway, I'd probably just go ahead and mail it without hearing from the requestor. They can do with the doll what they wish if they don't want it. |
