I am new to Paperback Swap and just mailed out my first 5 books this week and have not yet ordered any.

Do books always need to be shipped to the same address on file? I would like to get a few books from the site for my mom, who lives out of state, and have them shipped directly to her. Can I do this?

thanks!

Melinda

Yes.  When you order a book, it will ask you if you want the book sent to your address or a different address.  There is a place to enter the address you want the  book to go to.

Yes, as Sarah mentioned, there's an option the wisher can use to have books sent to a third party.   But keep in mind that the receiver will need to contact you ASAP so you can still mark the book received (same as if it came to you).

Hoping for someone who has used this feature tho, b/c there's a little niggle in the back of my brain that says you might not be able to RWAP a third party book?

Denise--I'm not sure about this, but I think that it used to be that you couldn't mark a book RWAP if it was sent to a different address, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that that was recently changed to allow a book to be marked RWAP even if going to a different address.  Hopefully someone with more insight than I have will come along and post shortly!

The option to request a book from another PBS member to send to an alternate address is available to you only after you have first used your two free start-up credits and have received two books here.  And you can't use the alternate address feature for a wish list book that you've set to "auto-request."

But books sent to an alternate address can now be marked "received with a problem."  (This was changed last year.)

Thanks for all the feedback! Yes, I'll order a few books to my address first to test it all out but that's great that I can send them to other people too. Yes, I'll make sure to mark received right away. I know my mom will call me as soon as she receives it :)

I have books sent to my grandchildren all the time, and they all live out of state, and love getting the books.  As others have said, make sure that your mom lets you know as soon as she gets the book and also (and this isn't required, so it's really small change), but she also needs to let you know when it was shipped and how much postage was on it, so you can fill out that part.  Good luck. Pat

The site will require that the first 2 (or maybe 3) books come to your address to validate that address, after that you will get the option to enter an alternate address to send books you request to.

Happy Swapping!

Melinda, just wondering about your  "member since 11/8/2008" info.  Have you been a member all this time and just started swapping? If so, good luck!  The forums are the place to go for info, that's for sure.

Another great place to find answers is the help center.

Can I send a book to a friend/alternate address?

Yes! This is very easy to do.

If you would like to send one of your books to a friend (PBS member or non-PBS member) in a non-credit transaction:

This is called the mail-to-a-Friend feature.

  • Go to the Book Details page for the book (click on the book title or cover image anywhere on the site)
    • Choose "Mail-to-a-Friend" under More Options on the right of the page
    • If the book is currently Posted as available on your Bookshelf, there is also a Mail-to-a-Friend link on the upper right of the Book Details page.
  • Fill in the name and address where you want the book sent
    • Print out the wrapper and send the book as usual - you may use PBS-DC or Printed Postage in the process.
    • The transaction will appear on your account page on the "Books Sent to a Friend" tab
  • When your friend receives the book, mark it received from that tab.
  • This is a non-credit transaction. No credit will be deducted, or granted, for sending your book out this way.

If you would like to request a book FROM ANOTHER MEMBER to send to an alternate (not your own) address:

You can supply the address when requesting the book:

  • Click on the book listing
  • On the next page, you will be asked to confirm the mailing address.  Choose the option on the right for an alternate address, and enter the alternate name and address.
  • Click
  • This will submit the request with the mailing address you provided.
    • A credit will be deducted from your account, just as with any request made to another member
    • When your friend receives the book, she or he needs to tell you that it was received.  Then you simply mark it received from your the "En Route to Me" tab on your My Account page, as usual, so the sender can get credit.

I missed the email/contact info that I needed to add to my hotmail account in order to receive emails from PaperBackSwap.com.  I can't seem to find it again.  Thanks.

I have two of the Bride Quartet books listed on my book shelf.  Anyone interested?  Thanks.  (I'm new to PBS).

Rebecca - go to your account and then to club communications and anything you have received from PBS will be there.  I hope you find what you need there.

This may help, Rebecca:

I can't order a book! It says I have to confirm my email address first?

If you are getting the message that you need to confirm your email address when you try to request a book:

This means that you did not click the link in the "Welcome to PaperBackSwap.com" email that was sent to you when you completed the registration process.

  • Check your email inbox and spam/junk folders for the email entitled "Welcome, Your Name, to PaperBackSwap.com". This email would have been sent to you when you completed registration, and it will have been one of the first emails you were sent from PBS.
  • If you have the email, and the link in the email is not clickable (this will vary with your email provider), simply copy-paste the link URL into your browser to be taken to the appropriate page on the site where you can confirm your email address.
  • If you do not find the email in your spam/junk folder or your email inbox, or you have deleted it before confirming your email address, just click the link in the message you see on the screen you see right after you click Order This Book on any book listing, to re-send the email to your PBS User Email address.  If you do not get the email after clicking the link, contact us.

For members who registered before 3/11/2007, the link to confirm your email address was sent in a separate email at the same time as the "Welcome" email; the separate email would have been titled "Registration Confirmation" or "Please Confirm Your Email Address".
