Couple of questions that have come up for me recently.... 1) I received a book as a gift from a company that had its own advertisement printed on the whole back cover. There's also a small ad on the front cover. The book otherwise appears to be the same as a book currently sold in stores. I was thinking to offer it as a freebie, but I'm not sure if it's legal to send as media mail with the ads printed on it. Anyone know? 2) If I use the APC to buy media mail postage for a book over 13 oz, can I drop it in the box? The post office clerks told me I have to answer the security questions to drop in in the bin, but the APC doesn't ask the security questions when I go through the menu just to buy the stamp. Thanks! |

It should be ok to send as long as there aren't like product advertisements not related to the publisher. Like cookbooks with coupons and ads for products. Many books have ads for other books from the publisher and even tear out coupons to join book clubs or order more books from them. These are OK. It's when they sell ad space to other business'-like magazines, cooking pamplet type books etc..., The APC postage is trackable because you had to use a debit card or credit card to pay for it-so you should be able to put it into a blue box without problem. But then the post office has been known to send books back when the postage was bought at the counter and stamped by a clerk or when online postage was used. |

Every time I buy postage at the APC it asks me the security questions. I just hit "no" and go right along with my media mail business. |

Mary, the ads aren't related to the publisher - they're for a company that makes a different product related to the topic of the book. Thanks! ETA - Jennifer - Thanks. Maybe I just forgot I did it - all too possible, especially since I was mailing several things on that trip. Last Edited on: 11/17/09 11:15 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
