Hi,

Last night I received a request for seven books on my bookshelf.  The requestor had a condition that he did not want ink marks but pencil marks were okay.  Within an hour I  messaged him that three of the books had a price in ink on the cover but nothing inside.  The bindings are tight and the pages clean.  The other four books are fine. (Therse are the only copies of a classic horror author in the system. They are Ballantine Books from the 1970's).

When I didn't hear back I checked his account and it is on hold.  He must have put it on hold immediately after he requested the books.  If I don't hear from him by the "mail by" deadline,  do I ship the books and hope for the best or cancel the entire order? I will be using PBS delivery confirmation so i will get credit, but I would rather not have a request problem if he is unhappy whenever he takes his account off hold.

Thanks for any feedback.

E

Unless you are doing a deal, I'd cancel only the 3 books that you wonder about.

If it's a deal, I'd cancel the whole thing.  An ink mark is an ink mark. Unless text pages were specified, I'd say that the books don't meet the RC.

I'd give him more time to respond because I really think he only means ink on the pages and if I could send 7 books to one person its worth waiting it out a little. He could be busy or away from home, checking email only sporatically and that is why his shelf is on hold, he can order books while on Hold.

A lot of members put their accounts on hold when they don't have the extra money for mailing books, but they can still request books. Whenever I have occasion to PM a member about a book they have requested, I always say that they have until XX (insert date, time) to respond and if I don't hear from them I will be cancelling their request, etc. A lot of people only check in once a day, if at all, so I would give him until the books MUST be mailed to respond before cancelling his request.

Thanks for the input.  I just heard from the person who wants the books and he is not bothered by the ink on the covers.  So I can mail now without worrying that he will be dissatisfied.
