It's amazing watching the evolution of an already quietly elegant writer. The stories are less overtly wrenching than some of his earlier work but they resonate. As his writing often does, some of the stories leave a slightly bittersweet aftertaste. I was especially pleased to be reacquainted with the Maples, years after their divorce which ended "Too Far to Go".
