One of my first books when I started reading romance novels was A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux.  I almost stopped reading romance novels at this point.  The ending was very upsetting.  How could she not end up with the hero?  This is a romance after all.  Remember the HEA.  Well, I think I have picked up another book that is going to end the same way.  Has anyone read If Only in my Dreams by Wendy Markham?  It seems that their are two heroes.  If she doesn't end up with Jed the main hero I will scream.  If you have read this let me know?

I haven't read that, but I hate when that happens.

Yes, please let us know.

I remember reading a Harlequin Presents a long time ago where she ended up with the wrong hero:  she went back to her cold, domineering husband.  She should have gone with the man she was in love with.  AND (to make it worse), she had a baby with the jerk.  Like that was supposed to make everything right.

Sherron, I haven't read the book, but did surf a bit to find some reviews--it sounds like it's a time-travel, right?  I think that might have something with how things work out?  Keeping my fingers crossed for you :)  (And Ani, that sounds like a horrible ending!  Argh!)

I haven't forgiven Danielle Steel for having someone end up with the wrong man (The Ranch)...

I hate it when there's 2 great heroes and they kill one off.  I mean how about her choosing one and then giving the other guy his own book.  I've read a couple like that but the names escape me now.

Ugh!  I don't know what Deveraux was thinking when she penned that ending to A Knight in Shining Armor.  And I don't know what her editors and publishers were thinking letting that one through!

I've read another romance with a crappy ending.  If I figure out what the title was I'll tell you guys to warn you off!  ;)  It took place during Vietnam, and this doctor and a nurse were totally star-struck for each other.  Then they ended up making their not-so-great relationships with other people plod along for life instead of getting together at the end.  When I finished I just sat there staring at the stupid book like, you've got to be kidding me!

Ah-ha!  For All Their Lives by Fern Michaels!  Forgive the spoiler, but NOT HEA!

I read a Carla Kelly book that looked like she was going to end up with the other guy about half way through.  I was getting pissed and read the end to make sure and I was right.  I couldn't finish the book.  I haven't tried another book by her since.

Also, and this is hard to say without posting a spoiler, the Brenda Joyce Deadly Series has this happen as well.  I was pissed when I first realized the heroine wasn't going to end up with the one I wanted, but I ended up being ok with it in the end. :-)

Eeek.. and to think I just ordered A Knight in Shining Armor.. it seems to be so talked up in some of the other threads as a favorite of many.  Now I think its going to be on my TBR pile quite a while!

Well, I finished the book last night.  I don't want to give away too much, incase someone wants to read it.  I did read a spoiler (on purpose) about 100 pages into the book so I was prepared for the ending.  I wanted to be prepared for what I felt was going to happen.  Jude Deveraux's book blindsided me and I was very upset after that ending.  I was touched by several scenes in this book and ever became teary eyed, which doesn't happen too often for me.  I will say that the ending was not as upsetting as A Knight in Shining Armor. (maybe because I was prepared)  I would like to say more but, don't want to give too much away.

I must be the dissenting opinion here, because I loved the ending of A Knight in Shining Armor.   It was bittersweet - with an emphasis for me on the sweet.    She may not have ended up with the hero of the story, but it DID have a happy ending IMO.

Ditto to what Doughgirl said--excellent book, will worth reading.

Deveraux wrote an updated version of Knight but the ending did not change. I never got around to comparing the 2 editions to see what the difference was.

I too loved Knight in Shining Armor. There are many books I've loved but others hated and I've hated and others have loved. Not everyone is going to have the same taste. Thank Goodness!!!  I try to find friends here and on goodreads and amazon who have similiar tastes as me and that helps me alot in choosing new authors and books.

I thought it was excellent and quite a departure from the norm.  What I loved is the underlying theme that love conquers all....even time.  ;-)

WOW, after all this controversy about Knight in Shining Armor, I think I need to take a chance on it. I love time travels. If any of you have it on your shelf, I would rather "buy" from friends. Kathy I found a copy. Thanks all.

I hate this, too. it's been years since I've read Knight in Shining Armor, but I remember liking it. I also remember shedding a few tears.

I loved the Francesca Cahill books, but haven't gone very far because of all the drama between Rick and Francesca. I don't want Francesca to be with Calder. Why won't it work out for her and Rick. So I'm staying away until I'm emotionally ready to read about Francesca with Calder.

We need the HEA. This is why I don't read chick lit.

Grace,

That is funny about the Francesca Cahill books.  I felt the same way, but I was happy with the way things worked out in the end.  I had to take a break from them too because I was so upset about Rick and Francesca :-)

I HATED Knight in Shining Armor and made Jude Deveraux into an author I refuse to buy.  It is also the reason I always check the ending of time travels before I buy them.  I must have my HEA.  There was also one by Constance O'Day Flannery that had a similar ending.  Happily most time travels don't do this because I really enjoy them - I  have A LOT on my keeper shelves. .
