I just got an e-mail from Amazon listing the "Top 10 Editors' Picks" for the Best Romance Books of 2009.

  1. Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh
  2. Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas
  3. Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole
  4. The Perfect Poison by Amanda Quick
  5. Bending the Rules by Susan Andersen
  6. What Happens in London by Julia Quinn
  7. Fireside by Susan Wiggs
  8. A Duke of Her Own by Eloise James
  9. Immortal Outlaw by Lisa Hendrix
  10. Angel Lane by Sheila Roberts

Not sure what editors these are. A'zon says "our editors." I didn't know A'zon had editors.... Anyway, I've only read 2 of the books on their list (#3 and #6). I liked them both, but don't know if they'd be in my top 10. I'd probably have a Lora Leigh title or two on my list.

I've only read #10 but have #1, 3, and 7 and my coworker read 1 and 3 and liked them. I liked Angel Lane but not sure it was in my top 10.

I think it's not even close to the best romances of 2009. I think this list is comprised of the 10 romance novels that were most frequently bought from the Amazon web site. Doesn't mean they were good books (or the best).

The only one I've read is Fireside by Susan Wiggs.  I thought it was ok, but not even close to the best book in the Lakeshore series.  Also, I liked Wiggs' Just Breathe MUCH better than Fireside- if there was going to be a Wiggs on the list, I would have put that one rather than Fireside.

I don't think we could come up with the same 10 here either though! I haven't read Fireside yet - just the first book in that series..I did listen/read Just Breathe and liked it though it's not on my favorite list.

I've read Angel's Blood and Kiss of the Demon King. Angel's Blood was excellent! Kiss of the Demon King was the worst of the Immortals After Dark Series and huge disappointment imo.

  1. Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh  On my TBR pile
  2. Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas  Loved it (but I always love Kleypas books...lol)
  3. Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole  On my TBR pile - I have the two before this to read first
  4. The Perfect Poison by Amanda Quick  I was totally bored with this & returned it to the library after only reading half (and I've loved the other Arcane Society books, so I don't know why this one didn't grab me)
  5. Bending the Rules by Susan Andersen  Loved this!
  6. What Happens in London by Julia Quinn  Read it and remember liking it, but definitely not in my top 10!
  7. Fireside by Susan Wiggs  Ditto what Lesley said - a good book, but Just Breath was MUCH better, and this was not nearly the best of the Lakeshore series.
  8. A Duke of Her Own by Eloise James  didn't read
  9. Immortal Outlaw by Lisa Hendrix  didn't read
  10. Angel Lane by Sheila Roberts  never heard of it!

Did they redo the list? One of the romance blogs just posted about the Amazon list a few days ago, noting that hardly anything on it was actually romance.

I've only read #6 and #8 - loved them both and they would be in my top 10 for the year,  Quinn and James are favorites of mine,  I think WHIL was Quinn's best work since the Bridgertons and ADOHO was just fabulous.

I've read #6 & #8 too, but they didn't make my top 10.  They were more like books I had to read because they went with something else I already had read.  Extortion, in other words:P  I think Amazon's top 10 in any genre is a marketing thing - maybe their bestsellers or whatever  - but I wouldn't trust it if it wasn't.  Their ratings system is easily (& frequently) manipulated.

Far from my top 10, except the Singh maybe.  I liked Kleyaps and Quinn but not top 10 reads like several others I read last  year.  Quick/Krentz series are average quick reads but not "best" books.   I really enjoy Kresley Cole's series, but this one disappointed me as well, and I had been interested in his story from the previous one.  Others I haven't read yet.

Haven't read any of them and haven't even heard of most of them.  So, nope, definitely not my top 10.

Not only have I NOT read any of Amazon's Top 10, I don't OWN any of them either.  Although, the Kleypas and the Quinn are TBB in order TBR.   ;-)
