If you're a fan of his work, the April Costco Conection magazine has a short (2 magazine pages) Mma Ramotswe story in it.  I almost threw it out without looking at it, so I thought I'd give a little heads-up to the rest of you.

I love Alexander McCall Smith's books! I have read or listened to nearly all of them. We don't have a Costco where I live, but I'll see if there is one close to any of my relatives. Thanks for the heads up!

I read in People magazine (at the dentist) today that HBO is making a series about the Ladies #1 Detective Agency books. It didn't say when.  It was a blurb next to a review of the newest book and I'm blanking on the name right now.

I think the new book is called "The Miracle at Speedy Motors." I was reading that same "People" today--at the beauty salon!

I'd love to see the Mma Ramotswe books brought to life. There's something so sweet and fun about them...they just make me happy.

OOPS! I think I already threw it out, LOL! Will have to check if it made it's way to my magazine pile or the garbage pile :)

I'd love to se the books made into movies or tv series, but somehow I doubt they could capture the "flavor" and mood of the books.  Plus, they'd probably cast some skinny super-model type in the lead.  :(

Yes, the TV show is in production for HBO.  Anthony Minghella, the director of The English Patient, who died last month, had just completed filming the pilot.  I'm not sure who's playing Mr. J.L.B. Matekone, but singer/actress Jill Scott is playing Mma Ramotswe.  (And yes, she is of "traditional build."  :)

ETA:  I always pictured Loretta Devine and Danny Glover in the roles while reading the books, but I guess they're too old -- Precious is supposed to be in her 30s, I believe.
