Scott Spencer, writing in The New York Times Book Review, said "Mr. Powell is like a favulous guest at a dinner party, the guy who gets people drinking far too much and licking their dessert plates...for which not a few of them will hate themselves in the morning... Brilliant prose."
I enjoyed the craftsmanship of the writing, and the humor, the truly unique characters with their loud and clear voices, and the audacity. I wouldn't have called it brilliant, but Powell has an original and creative voice, and writes with assurance. I enjoyed the stories, some more than others.
