I have a couple Jodi Piccoult books, but I want to swap for other Jodi Piccoult books.  For every book of hers on my wish list I'm like number 500 in line.

Is there a way to offer to switch like that?

Thanks,

Michelle

yes, do it in the Book Bazaar thread, just spell out the offer you want to make...if you find a taker(s), you'd then need to post directly to their WLs and they to yours, to avoid the FIFO system.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is actually not allowed unless you are a BOB member.  From the Help Center:

Can we swap books for books directly with other members on this site?

Yes, but only if you both subscribe to Box-O-Books.

  • "Creditless" swaps are permitted ONLY between two Boxers.
  • Using the PBS site to conduct an under-the-table book-for-book swap without using credits would be in direct violation of PBS policy, and would put both members' PBS accounts in jeopardy.

Why is this?

  • We have worked very hard on this site, and it has cost us (and continues to cost us) a great deal of money. The Box-O-Books service is one of the few sources of income the site has generated to offset our financial losses, and we are still deeply in the red. Without some financial support we will not be able to continue the club. We are trying to keep the site free for our members, and Box-O-Books was one innovation intended to help us do so.
  • PBS relies greatly on the "honor" system among our members. We are pleased to say that the majority of PBSers are honest and above-board; if that were not so, the club could not continue.
  • We hope that the rule makes sense to you, and that you understand that we are not being unfair or greedy. It is simply that if enough members did this, we would have

Michelle, the problem is you aren't going to find those books on any BOBers shelf because they are Wish Listed. Also you can't ask for them in the Book Bazaar because you aren't allowed to try to jump the Wish List by offering or asking for Wish Listed books.

You can't do those through a BOB trade because as soon a WL book is posted it goes into FIFO and is offered to the first person in line-unless you post it directly to someone's WL.  Then it's still a credit transaction anyway.  Anytime I'm that low on a WL-I just buy the book myself, read it and post it to the WL system.  Eventually there'll be 200 copies posted into the system.

The rules quoted above state that creditless trades aren't allowed, but if you post a book to someone's wish list, that is *not* a creditless trade. I don't see how the rules as stated prohibit arranging a deal like this.

Willa, the second rule stated is the one that would apply: no posting in the Bazaar looking to "jump ahead in the WL"

You can do it, if you can find someone to do it without advertising in the BB. You couldn't do a creditless swap, but would have to each post it directly to each others WLs.  The site would frown upon the use of  the site to arrange a swap that circumvents the sites rules so finding someone to do it would be the difficult part..

When you are new the lines can look pretty daunting and giving up books that are WLed without getting the ones you really want now can be disappointing. Don't worry, the lines will move pretty quickly and pretty soon you will have way more books than you can read coming in.
