So pretend I have a couple books on my wishlist where I am like the 107th person out of 107 people to request it, and it doesn't look like I'll get it for awhile.
Then pretend I own a book or two that are highly desirable, and that also have long waiting lists.
Am I allowed to post something like, "I have such-and-such highly desirable books, and I'd be willing to trade them with someone who has such and such book on my wishlist"...?
No reason, just wondering... :)

You can only swap books for books if both parties have a Box-O-Books account.. Sorry, I really don't have any experience on how Box-O-Books works.

You aren't allowed to post requests for WL books anywhere. Offers of postable WL books are okay in some of the genre forums. You can offer unpostable WL books in the Book Bazaar. I don't do the Box-o-Books, but I thought you could only trade for things that were already on your shelf? I might be totally wrong about that, though. You can post directly to someone's wishlist as long it is the same ISBN and Binding. If you have a WL book w/ different ISBN number then you can post it in the Book Bazaar or the genre in a the thread or red sticky that starts with WL with different ISBN. You can't swap without credit. Only direct swaps if you are a member of Box O Books and they need to be posted to your bookshelf. You'd both have to post the books to each other's WLs but you can't advertise you have X book and want X book. You can cultivate buddies and get to know people with similar book tastes though. I know I have a few friends that I always look at their WLs first when I have books to post and they return the favor to me. Or if I have a really good WL book I might PM them about it and ask if they want to add it to their WL so I can post it to them. |

Even with BoB the books go on your shelf which means it goes into the FIFO system and to the first person in that long WL. It won't see your shelf publicly. On the games forum you can join in a WL book game. Otherwise any postable WL must go into the FIFO system. If it is postable but a different version (ISBN, binding) then you can post in the genre forums that if anyone is looking for that title you have this ISBN which is the same book. You can also tag any other ISBN that is the same title and binding with that message. Unpostables of that ISBN may be posted in the Book Bazaar for a credit as long as the defects are made known to the requester and they agree to that condition for a credit. Unpostables aren't to be posted to your bookshelf. Ruth I forgot to say that you can post to someone's WL directly but it's best if they know in advance so they have a credit and they agree to it. What Sarah said. PBS has some great members, I also occasionally post books to friends and have books posted to me (unsolicited). Boxers can negotiated deals, but are supposedly limited to books alread on their bookshelf which excludes wishlisted books. PBS allows wishlist book swap games, and in my experience romance, paranormal, and erotica members are friendly and the games are fun :-) I see swaps for other genre also, so feel free to stop by and say hi :-) ETA, I have no problem with new members asking questions. Hi, Sarah, welcome to PBS, hope you are finding your way around ok and had some success at startup. You're not the first to ask this question. At first thought, it seems like it would be logical, but then when you look at the other aspects that the others have pointed to (must be boxers to swap book for book, can't make deals to get WL books, etc) it makes you back up and see the light. Like I said, you aren't the only one to have asked about this in the past. Some made the mistake of actually posting the offer, rather than asking, so I think you did a good thing for yourself by asking about it :) |

I don't smell any baloney there. She wanted to know so she asked and got an answer. Like Sherri says at least she asked first instead of posting the offer and then getting blasted by people. Oh and my daughter is also Sarah L. Last Edited on: 7/25/09 1:10 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I didn't mean that the OP was my daughter-just to clarify. But that my daugher has the same 1st name and last initial. So maybe that made me partial to the OP. |
