I liked learning about the cultural differences between the Puerto Rican family and the American way of life. It was interesting how the mother often said one thing and did another thing. I enjoyed Esmeralda's story as she grew up. A good book about Latino culture in the US.

I enjoyed this book, but I was not blown away by it as I had been expecting after reading other reviews. I like true stories and memoirs, and this one is touching it it's way, but her struggles are not so different from countless other girls in America, no matter where they were born. 3 stars from me.
