Alone with the Dead - Joe Keough, Bk 1
Author: Robert J. Randisi
It's the same nightmare all over again; New York City is caught in the grip of a serial killer. Alone with the Dead is more than just the story of two serial killers; it is the struggle of one brave man battling the intransigence of the Job in order to release New Yorkers from the tyranny of fear.

New York City is in the grip of a nightmare. A twisted serial killer called the Lover is stalking young women, leaving his calling card with their dead bodies-a single rose. But that's not the worst part.

There's a copy-cat out there too, determined to do his idol one better. But the Lover isn't flattered. He's furious that some rank amateur is mudding his good name. As the nightmare grows ever more intense, one detective begins to suspect the truth. And as his superiors close ranks on him, he realizes that his only ally may be...the Lover himself.

There is a serial killer on the loose in New York, leaving a string of women in his wake. Detective Joe Keough isn't actually working on the case, but he should be. He discovers he is not the only one in the department to believe that there are two killers, one a copy cat. He teams up with this believer, an old friend, but they don't have long to work the case before murder finds his friend. Now, they are looking for a cop killer too. Departmental corruption works hard to keep Keough from pursuing the serial killers, and especially the murderer of his friend. This supports his theory that someone in the department killed his friend.

The introduction of detective Joe Keough, a hard-living, hard-driving Matthew Scudder-type. I'm really looking forward to reading more by Randisi and about Keough.

Not a synopsis. This is the second Randisi book, and I'm definitely going to order more. Well written, attention grabbing and holding. The protagonist is very likable and believable. All the male characters are well developed. Female characters are fairly typical damsels, but luckily are not big parts of the story.
