Mary Daheim is a master of the cozy mystery genre. This offering takes place in the U.S. northwest and is part of a series in which all of the titles have the word Alpine in them. It concerns an editor of a small tow weekly and her sidekick the society page writer. All in all another enjoyable mystery.

The newest Alpine mystery for me and I enjoyed it as always. Lots of conspiracy this time and kept Emma guessing who was who. A man who was married to Tom's daughter telephoned Emma demanding that Emma sell the Advocate to their family. She didn't like his attitude or his idea and flatly refused him. The motel owner where he stayed in Alpine called 9-1-1 when the man was later found shot in his room. Very confusing for Milo and Emma to determine what happened. Her new cub reporter is abominable and exasperating which doesn't help. Lots of twists and turns in this one and I enjoyed it immensely.

This is not one of my favorites! I think Ms. Daheim may be running out of ideas! What a shame!

This series of a small Washington state newspaper evidently will go from A to Z before it ends. The editor and owner, Emma Lord, is a single mom with a grown son who changes colleges and majors as often as changing socks. Emma's staff is a mix of some great characters and the small mountain town setting is wonderful as are the townspeople. Emma has a long time love, but the sheriff would like to be closer to her. The mysteries are very original. One of my very favorite series and authors.
