I had a book on my wish list. It was granted and someone sent me the book. When I got it the cover was different but I didn't look into... I posted that the book was received in good condition, and now that I checked into it... The book I was wishing for was published in 2007, the book she sent me was published in 1988. No wonder the cover is different!!! Is there anything I can do about it now that I already marked the book received?

The publication date of the book does not need to match what's in the PBS listing.

The only things that are required to match are:

  1. title of the book
  2. author of the book
  3. ISBN of the book
  4. binding (hardcover or paperback) of the book
  5. and if the listing says "Large Print" the book must be Large Print

Even if you had noticed the difference, you cannot RWAP based on publication date or cover art differences ... they are not required to match, and in the case of books that get re-printed and re-released multiple times, often don't.

If you know in advance that a book has been reprinted and you want one of the reprints but not others, you can make a RC that says something like "For XYZ by ABC, I would like the 1988 (or later) edition, not any of the earlier editions".

Ok thank you. My other question is... I was wishing for a specific ISBN and the book the sender sent to me does not have any ISBN listed on the book whatsoever, so did she accurately fulfill my wish if she did NOT know the ISBN for this book?

Did you check the inside of the book? The isbn might be listed there. If this happened to me, I wouldn't be concerned about the cover. If covers are important to you, please put them in your rc's.

Many older books ONLY have the ISBN on the copyright page, not on the back cover where it's obvious in newer books.

Christine, it sounds like the member posted the book by the title and not the ISBN number. If you were looking for a specific iSBN number and the book you received did not have that number, then yes you should have RWAPed it. They should have posted the book using the link for posting books without an ISBN number if one cannot be found in the book. As for your question, it is too late to do anything now since you already marked it in good condition.

The answer is, if there is no ISBN on the book, then it was wrongly posted, and you would be able to RWAP it. Books without ISBNs are posted to PBS using a PBS generated short number instead of an ISBN. But do check the copyright page as sometimes that's the only location the ISBN appears.

A book published in 1988 should have an ISBN on it somewhere unless it is a book club edition.

The large majority of books published in 1988 have ISBNs, but not always. As mentioned above, book club editions do not always have ISBNs, and sometimes books by small presses also do not. And occasionally you may come across other books from 1988 without an ISBN, but this is very uncommon.

Publication date and cover do not need to match, so no case on these grounds for marking as RWAP unless there was an RC specifying a particular edition.

If the book in question was posted with an ISBN-10 or ISBN13 but has no ISBN anywhere on the cover or the copyright page, then it was posted incorrectly and should have been marked RWAP.
