I have a book cover image to post but it has some publisher blurbs on it in yellow font that are not showing up very well on the image. It's not the book title or author, just a couple blurbs.

Would it be an acceptable image for PBS if I just outlined those letters in a darker color to make them less blurry? Or are blurry blurbs not important enough to bother with?

Don't bother trying to make the blurbs less blurry. Just make sure that the image meets the guidelines:

  • The image must be less than 5 MB
  • The image must be in .jpg format
  • The image must be cropped to show only the book cover
  • The image can't be one that has "See inside!" (some images from Amazon.com have this)

If the image you have is small, there are a couple of places that I have been able to find decent images (depending on the book, of course) ... www.fantasticfiction.com www.goodreads.com and www.barnesandnoble.com  all have book images of a very decent size.

Note: Blurry images generally will not be approved.  Usually, either the Image approver will replace it/attempt to clarify it or send a note to the submitter to fix and resubmit.

It is perfectly fine to try to clean up an image to make it more clear. The image team often sharpens images. As long as you aren't totally doctoring the image I think you will be fine and more likely to get it approved.

Thanks for uploading images to this site, Gayle, and for fixing any blurriness.  Much appreciated.  Here's some of what we look for:

Images must
Have the extra space around the image (usually white on the sides) cropped off.
Be straight
Be clear
Be free from stickers, rips, writing, etc.
Be large enough to read the title
Be free from any emblems from other sites, such as eBay or Amazon.
No flash glare

I have a picture that I'm pretty sure should be working but doesn't seem to be.  When we upload the new picture should it sho us an example of what it will look like in the book edit box?  I'm trying to add a picture to a new book that just recently came out.  Its The Descendant (City of the Gods, Book 1)  but when I hit edit book data and then upload and find the picture and click ok it does nothing.  Should it be doing something?  I've added a photo before and I was pretty sure when I did it showed me what the picture would look like in the box am I wrong?

Hi Elizabeth.  That -would- be a nice feature, for the system to show us what it will look like.  The system doesn't really do that, although it should be showing you an image in the box when you submit an image.

Note that once an image is submitted, you cannot resubmit an image until the first image submitted for a book listing has been cleared.  So the system will not "take" any additional submissions once there is one in line waiting for approval.  Until that image is out of the approval line (approved or declined), a new image cannot be submitted.

Go to the book details page, click on More Options button to the right of the cover image space and then choose Edit Book Data from the dropdown button.  That will bring up the Data Editing page. Click Upload then indicate where your image is.  (There is no "OK" button to click on.)  Once you've listed where your image is on your computer, the Image submissin window should close and the Data Editing page should show an image in the image box (note: the image showing there may not be the one you submitted, depending on what image is cached on your computer), with the words Awaiting Approval under the image.  The Awaiting Approval note means that no other images can be submitted for the listing until the currently submitted image clears the Approval queue.
