Just in case someone with an Amazon account hasn't run into this yet, don't forget to check for updates. Go to "Manage Your Kindle" and let your books load. When they do, go to [View] and chose [Available for Update]. I try to do this once in a while, but sure had a lot of books updated lately. This is when the books has been reloaded by the author/publisher (hopefully) with revisions or format fixes. This new copy will replace your older copy, and will erase any notes you may have already had in the older one. But if you open a book and the font is freaky and it's got junk in it, check to see if maybe it's been updated. Also, if you get a lot of the freebies like I do, but don't want to see a lot of the same thing offered on your recommendation page, you'll want to remove them from the list. To do this go to your main page, click on [Improve Your Recommendations] and then check the box on the right that says "Don't use for Recommendations." I may try a new genre if it's free, but don't necessarily want to to see a hundred more of them on offer. Any other tips? |

The "Manage Your Kindle" page has a handy shortcut: http://www.amazon.com/myk https://read.amazon.com allows you to read your books on any PC (and some phones/tablets) using Chrome, Firefox or Safari - without installing special software. The next tip works for all things Amazon, not just the Kindle. If you're wanting to buy something from Amazon and you see a used item is available, click and see what sellers are listed. If you see one by "Amazon Warehouse Deals", this generally means it's a customer return. These items are almost always in near brand-new condition - they might just be missing a tag, or have an opened box, a tiny scuff, etc. Plus, you're still dealing only with Amazon customer service if there were any issues. I was able to get one of the $60 lighted covers for $25, and a $70 messenger bag for $20. Both were brand new. |

I was able to load the Amazon cloud reader on my Nook Tablet! The only problem was that it would not save the bookmark in a book. If you exited and went back, it took you to the beginning of the book again. Might be OK if it's a short book you can read in one sitting though. |

Thanks for the update tip. I had 13 books that were updated and didn't know. Very helpful. Just curious. Do they remove the old book or do you end up with two copies? |

Every time my ebooks have changes/updates Amazon sends me emails. Must be a difference in personal settings, or a choice the author/publisher makes. I get a notice once in a while, but usually when I go in and check there's more than just the one. I hadn't been in for a while and yesterday had 30 books listed with updates. Yet I hadn't gotten even one notice.

I used to get update notices. I don't now, and I heard they don't email them anymore. Anyhow I checked and had 3 pages of them. One is for a book I intend to read soon, Sweet Release by Pamela Clare, so I was glad to get the update. I turned on wifi and then hit update....the new copy did replace the old copy and had a "new" badge next to it. Also went into the collection automatically. Nice! |
