But Amelia always had to try something new. In 1937, with Fred Noonan, she set off around the world, flying at the equator. No one knows exactly what happened when her plane was lost over the Pacific. In a letter left for her husband, she had written, "Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be but a challenge to others." Amelia failed, but her failure challenged others to explore the new world of flight.« less
