My boyfriend has this book and he's going to keep it. I was reading it the other day and it includes sheets of stickers. Hypothetically, if someone were going to post it, does it have to have all the stickers?

I would say no. I would classify that as non-media that is not required to read the book. Someone else may disagree though. I would PM any requestors about the stickers (probably mention that it is postable without them, but just wanted to make sure they weren't really looking forward to them).

Does the PBS listing or the book itself say it has stickers?  Then I would say not to post it without the stickers. Because you just know the receiver is going to complain.  If not and the stickers aren't need to use the book, then I would say it's ok to post it w/o them.  Unless there's a gaping hole in the book where they were removed.  Were they just a promotional from when the book first came out?

The stickers are part of each book, and it's even mentioned on the flyleaf/back cover.

I don't see the stickers mentioned on any part of the cover of my book... Am I missing it somewhere?

So, is there a consensus on this? Is it postable or not?

Does it need to have ALL of the stickers? My copy is missing 5 out of 12 stickers (my son thought it would be fun to get into the book and pull some of the stickers out).

Well, here's what the HC says. It appears to me that if the stickers are just an accompanying bonus item, then it's not required to read the book (unlike, say, a sticker book where you need to put the stickers in the right places in order to complete the book). So I'd say yes, it's postable:

Supplementary/Accompanying Materials:

  • Books that require supplementary Media materials MAY be Posted

    • supplementary Media materials include CD(s)/CD-ROMs/DVD(s)/VHS tape(s)
    • if the book originally included supplementary Media materials, the supplementary materials must accompany the book for the book to be postable.
  • Books that require non-Media supplementary materials MAY NOT be posted

    • an example would be a book that requires a decoder or craft materials
    • these items cannot be sent MediaMail
  • Books that originally had accompanying non-Media materials that are not required to read the book (ie, jewelry) MAY be posted.
    • The extra material does not have to be included, and if it is included, the book must not be sent using Media mail rate.

I had a copy of Captain Underpants that included a bonus cd of graphics and stuff for the computer.  I asked about it and it was considered postable by PBS because it was bonus material.

The receiver didn't complain...

I could see if it was a cd or something that might raise eyebrows, but stickers?  I wouldn't have questioned it.
