American Quilts and How To Make Them Author:Carter Houck and Myron Miller This book illustrates 42 old patchwork quilts which are based on traditional patterns, but each one is unique because of some variation introduced by it's maker. Useful advice on the care both old and new, ... more »is also included.
Carter Houck is a skilled needle-woman and co-author of "Betty Cocker's Good and Easy Sewing". Myron Miller is a professional photographer. Together they visited historical houses, museums and restorations from Connecticut to North Carolina and photographed the quilts, in nearly every case, as they are now displayed in period rooms. They have provided a short history of each building, so that this book is a guide to a number of collections which are neither large nor famous but well worth visiting.
The quilts themselves are beautiful examples of one of America's most treasured heritages and should inspire today's workers to reproduce them with loving care and skill.« less
