Hi Pat,

We have nothing against Canada here!

But unfortunately, the mail rates for international mail to and from Canada are prohibitive. We have a "media mail" rate within the US which is fairly inexpensive and applies specifically to media like books and movies. My understanding is that the mail rates for international mail to Canada cost far more.

Also, this club mails books to each other for "free", meaning no money changes hands, the sender pays the postage on each item, and it is, in fact, against the rules to buy or to ask for money for items listed here for trade. Everybody mails to each other, paying only the postage for items that they send out, and then receiving in return "credit(s)" which can be used to order from other members.

But in any case, I don't think you will be able to join PBS with a Canadian mailing address. We mail within the US only. Sorry!

This is a "Swap" site, nothing for sale here.

We can only mail to U.S. addresses and it's territories.

At present, we are a US-only club.

  • PBS members must be able to receive mail at an address served by USPS.
  • The PaperBackSwap system uses Media Mail postal rates provided by the USPS.
  • Media Mail rates are good for:
    • all 50 US states
    • US territories and commonwealths (American Samoa, Guam and the Virgin Islands; Washington, D.C., the Northern Mariana Islands and Puerto Rico),
    • APO/FPO addresses
    • If you live in any of these areas, you can belong to PBS.

We've had requests for international membership from all around the world.

  • Eventually, we hope to expand.
  • We have had a LOT of requests from Canada!
    • We have been working on shipping issues regarding the Canadian postal system. Until we work these out, we will not be able to trade across borders with our system.

If you're really close to the border & come over frequently to shop anyway, you could consider renting a PO box in the US.  All the border towns have lots of Canadian PO box customers.  Be careful which office you choose though - P O Box rates can vary greatly depending on the size of the office.

Patricia, Bookmooch.com is a similar book swapping site to PBS, and is open internationally. (Hope the PBS folks don't mind me mentioning it, since Canadians can't use PBS.)
