Okay, I have to admit, I read this as a kid, because I had such a HUGE crush on Sam Neill, and he was in the TV miniseries based on this. It does seem dated now, a bloodless, bombless coup leaves the US at the mercy of the Ruskies, but it is still a good, enjoyable read. The characters are well rounded and you find that you do care what happens to them, and that keeps you turning the pages. If you like political novels that have the scent of days gone by (ahhh...nostalga) you will like this one.

Does seem rather quaint and unbelievable now that the Soviet Union is gone.... Oh! I forgot! Half the country thinks we're going Communist right now!
