I thought the book took some time getting into...as I was reading...the book would take a direction...in where I would get lost. I was annoyed with the main character....@ thirty years of age....she seem like a child in thought.I just wanted her to get a move on....choose...stop delaying life. Of course the authur left us hanging in thought on her character ....really no ending,it would be nice to have the aurthur just give her ending...not for us to come up with it.

Amy will soon turn 30. All she can think about is her lifelong dream of publishing her writings, but all she gets is rejection letters one after another. Her teaching position at a local college was supposed to be temporary, but it has been two years now.
She is confused and discouraged about her life in general. To add to her frustrations her eccentric, totally opposite roommate, Zoe moves her friend, mysterious and handsome Eli in, temporarily. This sets off a myriad of emotions in Amy. Complications, upsets and disappointments forces Amy to take a long hard look at herself and see her flaws.
The author has a gift for vividly conveying the characters feelings and experiences. At times I felt like I was Amy and at others like I was a fly on the wall watching all the characters.
There was one aspect of this book I was disappointed in. I dont think it should have been labeled Christian fiction. While nothing was graphic there were quite a few references to lust and sexual intimacy that I do not expect to find in a Christian book.
I kept waiting for Amy to turn back to God and biblical standards, but it never happened. There were smatterings of reference to her faith, but God wasnt strongly represented in the novel. None of these sexual references had anything to do with the plot and the book would have been much better without them.
In exchange for my honest review, I received a copy of the book from Bethany
House Publishers.

Amy Inspired is the story of an aspiring writer who is dealing with rejections from publishers while trying to make sense of her job, her family, her friends, and her life. She struggles with the loss of a boyfriend, getting along with her roommate, and meeting and falling in love with a new romantic interestall while trying to make sense of the hurt and rejection she still feels from her parents divorce when she was a child.

While the author has a real talent with words (her descriptions are fresh and interesting) her story did not speak to me. The people portrayed in this book were worldly and displayed questionable morals. I found the sexual descriptions and references to foul language to be offensive and inappropriate for Christian characters. Amys new love interest was about as exciting as peeling painta shallow, wimpy, unmotivated person who was going nowhere. There was no chemistryno spark. The story line itself was a depressing description of a young womans life that did not create a compelling read. Christian fiction should tell a good story that is uplifting and encourages one in their faith. This story failed on all counts. I find it much more suited to the secular market.

Bethany House graciously provided me with a review copy of this book.
