DuBois, and Henry David Thoreau. Each volume utilized a different editor for the chosen selections published, and included an introduction by each.

Andrew Johnson was one of the most controversial Presidents in American history. He was a staunch Unionist during the Civil War, served as a Military Governor of Tennessee from 1862 to 1865, and became Lincoln's Vice President in 1865. Having exhausted the patience of the Republican Congress by his pro-Southern policies as President, he was impeached in February 1868; then was acquitted by a margin of one vote.« less
