So many hearts broken in so little time. This book was wonderful in the fact that the ending was unpredictable. Angel doesn't mourn pitifully for a lost love throughout the entire book, as we see in so many others (including other Wilde books), and it is resolved quite well. Angel is a very believeable and loveable character with many strong traits. One thing I love about this book is the constant presence of what amounts to be a childhood nuisance. You'll have to see for yourself! It's definitely a great read.

I read this one when I was 14, and have since read it again. I change my mind about who she should be with each time. The heroine can survive on her own anyway, and she proves it over and over. A good read.

As many of the other reviewers, I read this many times when I was a teenager and recently got the urge to revisit it. It seems that this is the sort of book that stays with you.
It's worth the read.

This is the best Jennifer Wilde book by far. It's about Angela Howard, a School-teacher's daughter who becomes the toast of London on the stage of 18th cent. She even gets painted by Gainsborough, meets many famous people from that era and becomes wealthy. It is written from the point of view of Angela and you would truly believe she was a real living breathing person.

I did not like this book at all. I hated the exoburent amount of time that the hero and heroine spend away from each other. Actually, I don't think there was a true hero in this novel because there were several different men, and she doesn't end up with who you think it is. However, each man does fulfill a different need. If you're looking for an HEA ending you will not get it in this novel. Definitely an unpredictible ending. I just like to read a little more romance in my romance novels.

Its one of the very few romance novels I think is absolutely fantastic. It still draws me in every time I read it.
