I loved this book! Davis is a wonderful storyteller; his characters are well done, 'real' people. This is a murder mystery, a coming-of-age novel, and a love story all rolled into one. This kept me reading, because I had to find out what happened! (Plus, I live in the Allegheny Mountains too...beautiful setting!)

An easy read. This is a new author for me and i very much enjoyed this novel. Angels rest is a place called a peak, eleven year old Charlies mom told him, a place at the top of the mountains where Angels came to rest before coming to earth. This takes place in 1967 and Charlie and his mom are poor. His daddy was killed by a shot gun blast and his momma is put on trial for murder. This is a great read and i will be looking for more from this author. There is much depth in this book and alot of emotional issues.

This story took place in the Appalation area in Virginia. Charles had a happy home, and his life was remarkable until his father was killed with a single gunshot one morning.

The story is a mystery (who killed his Dad?), while also the story of secrets, hidden adenda, and full of twists and turns. It was well written, although at times was dry.

The ending is very surprising, and I didn't see it coming. Worth the time taken to read it.

I could not put this book down. Set in the late 1960's in the Virginia's Allegheny Mountains at the foot of an endless peak called Angel's Rest. Charlie York age eleven lives with his Mom and Dad until one day his life takes a ugly turn by the death of his Father. His Mother is put on trial and he is put into the care of Lacy Coe.
Charles Davis pulls you in on the first page and does not let you go until the last page. Story telling is simple and story captivating. Highly recommend.

Well written, very readable story about a boy raised in a rural community in the Alegheny Mtns in VA. A tragedy, a romance, a coming of age story.
